Did anyone analyze this and come up with the conclusion the 4 would go off 0.8-1 and win, and the 5 at 1.9-1 finishing second? I saw both of these as bet againsts--the 4 did not seem clearly faster than the others, Clement had finished 3rd twice in a row in this race at <2-1 odds, and the 5 had a break in workouts and had a bouncy pattern--but the 5 did have two previous tops very solid in this field. Any comments/insight appreciated. Thanks.

Ask the Experts / Syn to Dirt Jump
June 04, 2009, 09:53:12 AM
This was discussed in some detail before the Derby, there were examples of some horses really improving first on dirt, many others running back to previous figures.
??One person not on this board, stated that horses that tend to freak first syn to dirt are speed horses, NOT closers?? Anyone have an info if this is true? Thanks.

Ask the Experts / Question re Thoro pattern for Thoro experts/TGJB
May 07, 2009, 12:09:51 PM
Does the thoropattern look at only the pattern and not absolute numbers?
Into the Preakness last year, Big Brown\'s thoro pattern on the sheets shows Top%13, Pair%30,Off%27, and X%30.
His numbers coming into the Preakness were 8,1,-3(2),-4(3).
With a Top defined as >1 point better than the previous top, he would need a -6 for a new top, which must certainly have a <13% chance of happening.
Given other criteria being the same, would a horse with numbers of 14,7,2(2),1(1)-that is, add 6 pts to each figure for Big B, have the same number listed under Top% as Big Brown?
Thanks!

To JB: I believe it was after IWR\'s first big top on dirt you were soliciting bets on this forum, that IWR would not finish in the top 10 in the Derby, and if he didn\'t start, you win............

Interesting comments by Dutrow today in the DRF, appears to be conceding the Wood to IWR-- contrast to some data on the forum re second dirt regression for IWR
