\"Dave Johnson was doing thi in the early 70\'s\"

NCT,

With all respect, DJ has called races much much later than the 1970\"s.

He definitely picked up TD\'s habit of calling horses by cap and silk color.
TD does that very smoothly day to day. DJ\'s calls were more methodical. Not as natural as his \"Down the Stretch they come...\"

As Cervantes wrote (or maybe the soundtrack says in Man of La Manch) \"To each his Ducinea....that he alone may find....a racecaller with a voice pure who isn\'t blind....\"

I primarily play West Coast tracks from an East Coast location. I hear him almost every day during the meets he racecalls. He is fine by me.

Clown, you are hilarious.

I Luv Trevor.

Best racecaller in the USA!!

Admittedly, in the Juvie, I looked at my pal while pointing at SS on our clubhouse TV...\"That\'s us isn\'t it??\"

I did that because Trevor called some horse coming wide. Of course, I was following SS the entire race and saw him \'scraping the paint\' .....and eventually steamrolling the field.

Think he called Invasor and BD perfectly in the Classic. Mentioned Bernadini struggling (which he appeared to be on the backside)----I think TD calls it \'being ridden along\'.

He consistently sees more of the racetrack than any other caller. Sees horses moving early, sees them looking for room, sees the pace implictions \"they couldn\'t be going any faster\", sees horses \"on a loose rein\", sees horses forced wide,  and calls the race as such.

More guys (including Durkin and Dave Johnson) have copied parts of TD\'s act than any other announcer I have heard (don\'t they all call the horse by silks and cap---\'that\'s so and so in the white silks with the red cap\")....and I have heard plenty. Now Dave Johnson is a racecall that I could use my earmuffs for...lol.

Ask the Experts / BC piks
November 04, 2006, 07:08:45 AM
First, if my dear friend HOTWINGS reads my piks (he is a devoted sheets player and a long time buddy who is quite ill at the moment). Hope you feel better and think of the $$ you are saving by not betting my picks...LOL.

Second, my disclaimer:

I seldom win on big \'event\' days. I could offer a million excuses, reasons, rationalizations, tough beats, misguided advice, shoulda coulda wouldas but the fact remains; I seldom cash \'big\' on these days.

Use these picks with CAUTION.

I am changing my strategy this year.
Not going for ths super gimmick score of a lifetime and will be limiting myself to 1 or 2 keys and mostly exactas. (unless someone changes my mind which is easy to do...lol)

Race2)  Awesome twist/ wiggins, straight line, andromeda, greely, level p

RAce3)  Her Majesty & Sutra/ d of A, cb, gator, qlm,

race6)  Too Much Bling / thor, bord, nightmare, pom, wf, sire, malibu
Henny probalby buries me here but have to play against the 3 negs.

Marcus,

I\'m sure I probably wasn\'t exactly clear.

Have observed similiar tote action at this meet.
Never noticed it at Hollywood or SA.

Strange ....very strange.

Marcus,

I wasn\'t referring to GF in my post about 6-1 to 7/2.

Totally different race.....same type of late betting action with size

Imallin,

Cancelling tickets.....I highly doubt it.

Late action.....Do you know the amount of win $ at Delmar????
Please....It takes a ton of money to move a horse from 7-1 to 7/2 in 30 seconds....

Not sure I understand what you are saying....

I can say that I have also noticed the same moves (and they are not small) on odds mid-race with the \'bet\' horse almost always winning.

For example (and I can look up the race), the 1st leg of the Pick 4---the winner is 6 to 8-1 all 24 minutes....after the first half mile he is still 7-1. He wins and pays $9.00.

I am an east coastie that almost plays the west coast tracks exclusively (job and other considerations) ......I had 10 guys watch the replay and they left my table shaking their heads.

There is something amiss at Delmar in that regard.

How about the last race Labor day exacta with 2 5-1\'s paying $40 for $2????

I was blaming the low payoffs on sheet players as the TG #\'s clearly pointed to some of those plays......but the last I heard Sheet Players don\'t get to bet after the 1st half mile.

July 30, 2006, 08:38:08 PM
Mullins has done ok.
He had a win and a 2nd today.

According to the DMR website:
http://www.delmarracing.com/

Mullins has 23 starts with 4 wins and 6 2nds.

Heard he posted a help wanted ad over at UCLA and USC....looking for chemsitry majors...

Yes, a bit subpar but check who is on top of the standings...

Freshened up in the detention barn, I heard O\'Neil invested in a new franchise that combines a Dairy Queen with a Rite Aid.

Question:

1st at Delmar:

TG\'s didn\'t have figure for SP debut. Is that considered a \'relevant\' figure?
If so, then is that race eliminated?

Thanks

Quite the contrary!

Your thought process and analysis were excellent.

One guy is disabled and the other a teacher....
Gotta being doing something wrong as I watch all the red on my stock monitor...

FTL,

A bond trader friend on GKST in the Sears building suggests:

Morton\'s......53 south to Higgins Road Exit...make right to Machim (sp) look for IKEA and Mortons\' is right there.
The Bistro....Lake Cook Road to Rte 14. North of 14 for 1 1/2 miles.
Entourage.....Near Morton\'s and has a nice bar. He wouldn\'t eat there but likes
              the drinking atmpsphere.

TGJB,

I gave this some thought overnight as it was late last night when I posted and I just ambled in after attending a local boxing promotion in beautiful downtown D.C. (beteer known as Dickson City, Pa.)

I can see now that I should dvided by two as if affects the weight adjustment.
I would only be giving 50% (approx.) credit to weight. Thus, for instance, Robador would not have ben tied for top ranked. He would actually rank 1/2 point behind Final Finale.

Robador --12 1/4 divided by 2=6 1/8.....Final--13 1/4 divided by 2 = 6 5/8-1pt for 5lbs=5 5/8.
Am I thinking correctly?

OK.

Today,

Race 5 @ DMR---

Tutta Bella gets a 23 3/4 (that is 12 1/2 + 11 1/4)
If there are three races for consideration, I would drop the highest and add the other two. I used a gross number and did not divide by 2 since it makes no difference.

I also failed to adjust for weight yesterday. Had forgot that weight adjustment was one of the factors.  In this race, weight did not make a difference in who the top ranked horse would be.

Today,
Race 1) UGOTADO ranked 1st and broke down....Schwindler was ranked 2nd and won.
Race 2) Art Moderne ranked first with an 8 3/4 (drop the 6 1/4 and add the 5 1/2 and 3 1/4.  He ran second. Warrior Song won with an 11 1/2 that ranked 4th.
Race 3) Gold Label ranked 1st and ran 2nd.
Race 4)SweetSmell ranked first off TUP #s and ran out
Race 5) Tutta Bella ranked first and won
Race 6) Robador ranked first with 12 1/4. Final finale earned a 13 1/4 but received 5 lbs which dead heats him with Robador at 12 1/4. robador wins if you add 3rd race....Robador won.
Race 7) Vikki\'s Honor ranked first and won.
Race 8) Senior Discount ranked first and ran 2nd.

So, today 3 top ranked won and 3 ran second. One broke down and one ran out.

Ask the Experts / fig contest
July 19, 2006, 08:58:18 PM
With 1/2 hour between races and a contest delay, I decided to test out the opening day card for just the TG\'s.

Here\'s my results:  (Horse, TGcombined #, TG rank-- finish)
Race 1) Pao Com Ovo---11---1st   won
Race 2) Delivering Speed----15 1/4---1st----won
Race 3) 1st time starter won---Flip the Penny---29--2nd----2nd (top rank ran 4th)
Race 4) He\'s Crafty  (long layoff) 7?  1st ---won
(Note: misplace the sheets for the 4th and 5th...HC was low # I recall)
Race 5) Incomplete
Race 6) (turfers only) Lightning Hit---13 1/2  1st---won
Race 7) Political Web----14----1st----won
Race 8) (turfers only) Obrigado----17 1/2----3rd-----won
Race 9) Golden Via-----------------32 1/2----1st-----won

Summary:6 races the #1 horse won (1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th 9th)
        1 race  the #1 horse ran 2nd (porto Santo)-8th
        1 race  the #2 horse ran 2nd  (1st time starter won)--3rd
        1 race  the #3 horse won 8th
1 race no result (friend tore up the sheet...lol)
Not sure this is the format---6 firsts, a second and a 4th for top ranked...not too shabby,,,,, but it is late but I am Lost in the Fog until tomorrow....
