Joe DeMola over Pete Ferriola...I don\'t get it..I think Ernie is the trainer of record and all others are in name only, Pete probably wouldnt have that.It was in Petes best interest to run,as fast as he could outta there!!!

Ask the Experts / no opportunity
November 04, 2007, 07:42:57 AM
All this that they do ,make them high percentage trainers.Because of this owners flock to them, and the smaller, hands on (very capable)trainer, has to fight for stalls, beg for owners to come his way.It gets more discouraging everyday.Owners need to take responsibility and put their  thoroughbreds in hands of someone that doesn\'t have to cheat to win, given a horse with heart and soundness. To hear about these guys cheating over and over again and see them monopolize the game is sad.It makes handicapping a race a real joke..

Ask the Experts / Deception...
September 14, 2007, 04:43:54 AM
INJUSTICE: When Wild Desert ($8.30) won the 2005 Queen\'s Plate at Woodbine, he became the first horse to win that race off a 10-week layoff. The only work he showed between his last race on April 16 and the June 26 Queen\'s Plate came at Monmouth Park on May 29. The only problem was that Wild Desert never was stabled at Monmouth Park. He was stabled at Aqueduct working under another name and before official clockers were present. Yesterday, the connections involved in the deception - assistant trainer Juan Rodriguez, assistant trainer Michelle Nevin and jockey Rudy Rodriguez - all were fined by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board. Nevin and Rudy Rodriguez each were docked $1,000 while Juan Rodriguez got a $3,000 fine. The fines are a joke. This deception almost can be considered as fixing a race. Until racing steps up to demand stronger punishments against cheaters, racing will continue to lose its dwindling fan base even faster than it already is.

I think this issue is one that has been around for a very long time, and I don\'t see that it will ever get resolved, not any time soon..Drugs ,steroids, part of the game ,like it or not..NOT..I am far from educated on this matter, but since I beacme involved in the indusrty in some form, someone was always known to have the \"juice\".In no particular order..i remember it being Oscar Barrerra, then Pete Ferriola, then Gaspar Moshera,at another point Juan Serey..so I would  only assume juice means some type of performance enhancing drug..I just don\'t understand why most are on Pletchers case, when there are so many others..I think the state of NY racing is very sad..and it very unfortunate for the  horses well being as they are the ones being affected..So just get back to handicapping the races accordingly...and may the luck be with you...

This  is only my uneducated opinion,I believe steroids are used routinely in most cases.I feel they certainly affect the performance of a race horse.I think in some cases small amounts of certain steroids are not harmful, but I feel some misuse them, and the affects of withdrawal, which I have seen after  someone claims a horse from  one that might be routinely given steroids are awful.Usually the horse is finished...

Ask the Experts / Re: Paying Attention

At the risk of sounding stupid...Could it be the quality of horses he has been fortunate to get and he has been very well schooled..

During his summers off from junior and senior high school, Todd worked as a groom for his father at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, LA and at Ak-sar-Ben Racetrack in Omaha, NE.
Between his junior and senior years in high school, Todd went to Southern California, where he worked as a hot walker for Henry Moreno at Hollywood Park and Del Mar.
Graduated from high school in San Antonio, TX in 1985.
Todd began college at the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program in Tucson, AZ in the fall of 1985.
Between his sophomore and junior years in college, Todd worked as a groom for D. Wayne Lukas at Arlington Park in Chicago, IL.
Todd spent the following summer with another Hall of Fame trainer, Charlie Whittingham, working as a groom at Hollywood Park.
Graduated from college with a Bachelor of Animal Science in May, 1989.
Todd traveled to New York to begin working for D. Wayne Lukas as a foreman immediately upon graduating from college.
In 1991, Todd was promoted to assistant trainer for D. Wayne Lukas, splitting his time between New York and Florida.
Todd was Lukas\' East Coast assistant until the end of 1995, in which time he was instrumental in the development of such horses as Thunder Gulch, Harlan, Serena\'s Song, A Wild Ride and Flanders.
Todd took out his trainer\'s license in December of 1995 and saddled his first winner, Majestic Number, in February of 1996.

Son of Jacobson ruled off track for many yrs for Starvation of Huggable Tom,or should I say \"alleged starvation.\"Suddenly back in full training mode,I guess money talks and anyone can get a licence these days...Sorry, was there back in the day of Huggable Tom,seen it with my own eyes....He was also,as the news reported, involved in his dads great escape...changes really need to be made before there is any type of level playing field..

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on Jacobson getting his trainers licence..And then there is that Paraneck crew..Lots of shady business  going on at the races ..I think there is more to be investigated than Pletcher..

Just look at the ride Coa gave the 7 horse in 3rd at Big A. Lil guys just dont have a shot.Put Rudy back on that horse and horse would have been right there. What a joke. They take a mount and just gallop a  more than capable horse around track..

Ask the Experts / Polytrack
February 25, 2007, 05:17:58 AM
I believe a polytrack should be considered, but I definitely feel a well maintained dirt track is the best surface, here in NY.If any have the opportunity to be at Belmont ,and or Aqueduct during morning training hours, you would see first hand what is major cause of most breakdowns..That would be sore horses.Actually crippled horses..Its so obvious to all standing in booth during am that you say to yourself ,how do these horses win in the afternoon.Thats when the medication theory comes in..I believe horses need to be vetted out more carefully in the a.m.,and the track itself needs to be better maintained,as does the entire grounds of Aqueduct.
