Ask the Experts / Re: Racing Reinvented

I think you have a lot of great points.I think it would be hard to raise the minimums unless you had a separate on track pool for current wager size. You want young and new people. But for online bettors, the higher minimums could  make it harder for the algos covering. I don’t know if a higher minimum alter their models, but maybe. As far as two minutes, that would ridiculously get pushback, especially if there are wagers going in late. Maybe just closing the betting before the gates could open. Now, we use the opposite. It seems the lock on the betting is the problem, not the gate.

I have a question for track management. I’ve noticed over the last few years with all the multi day bets they’ve poisoned the bettors with, there’s data that can be seen but isn’t. Not every race, but I noticed over the Belmont weekend there were races later in the card where you could see the pools and probables. It would certainly be valuable when putting a multi wager together which FTS is getting played. I have seen it for sure in the Futures Bets also. And the exacta probables were shown. If this is the case, why can’t the pools and odds be shown using your phone or tablet? One of players gripes is CAWs getting better looks than retail. Show retail the data, it would cost the tracks nothing and the player feels he got something. As a cynic, you think the CAWs won’t play like that, so the tracks will oblige them. But if it’s possible, and it is, why keep it a secret.

Off point on your good ideas, but been curious on the advance betting pools.

Hope you got some Franklins back with that very well meant 2 in the last. Very true on the younger Mott. Riley, Miguel and Will Walden are all very  easy to root for as well. Miguel is having a sensational meet.

You are so correct calling Jimmy an Outstanding Individual. I think Evans taking him away off the Fl. Derby was as bad as it gets. Had a run with Stronach, but then just Centennial, not enough. Great to see McPeek do this, he won races but didn’t love the desert. Just a class individual as his father of course and Steve. So on Monday and Tuesday afternoons JAJ might be back at the Victoria Pool, great conversations.

Ask the Experts / Re: Land Meets Sky, RIP Richiebee

My first interaction was Richie slapping me for a well deserved red board using TG in the last week of 2015. Had to be the last week, I wouldn’t buy Mahoning. I titled the post Thank You and Richie didn’t like that. But the horse paid ~ $415 to win, I only had $2 to win and he/she looked to be circling around. We went back and forth, but then it got friendly, he sent me a few emails or PM, don’t remember. But we went back and forth and I could just tell he’s one I’d like to meet. I went around the backyard area a few times over the years, and asked, but was told not today. His dad and I had something in common. We both went to school in Coral Gables, but didn’t finish. Mine was due to Hialeah, not sure on Mr. Land. We talked about the old farms in Colts Neck he’d pass when going to play golf. But the post on BB were always so good, well thought out and well placed minor details that made you know he was there. I hope to meet someday on the other side. If anyone can pass on the link to his obit, I’d like read it please. RIP

That’s what I was trying to say! I’m sure the conversations will take place within NYRA re next summer. Maybe not come back to AQU, go up there from early June to Labor Day. Hopefully they don’t opt to squeeze the lemon dry over 25 or 26, but I’d imagine it’ll be discussed. Short term thinking is what they do. You only need 500 paying customers a day to outdraw AQU.

True, and my mother was an English major at Marymount.

I believe it was you who said during the Kay years. Paraphrasing , they have to identify who the customers are. It’s the player, not the diner.

One can only eat or drink so much, and they can make more % vig on the liquor. But why not clear all of that out of the equation, and attempt to keep the players feel welcome.

I’m glad you mentioned the Vendor Cash theft whatever it is. I’m an annual since 78 sans 2020. It was more upsetting to me this here than when they started with the forms ~2022 or 23 .Some kid with a flashlight looking for the hand stamp coming from the window or bar or paddock back to the Porch table. Other than Ziggie, the employees are ininterested, confused and hard to find. The rake on 80mm or so a week isn’t enough. They have to shake down a pizza salesman. Also add in, they now get every last dime in cash from player who would buy food, beer DRF with his cash. Now at the end of the month, the  weekend attendee owes Citi $3-400.00. Figure something out. Give a 10-20% discount for cash, so you don’t make $2 a whatever and it instead goes through the window. The digitization doesn’t stop. Chris Kay maybe started but it’s spiraled out of control. Whitney day, We had four of us at a table for 10, the only one left.we had two beers each, and cheese and cracker appetizers. It was close to a grand after everything. The competition gives, NYRA takes. I live near MTH but would get in 12-15 Sar cards for the meet. I did the opening 4 and Whitney 4 days, I might just call it. I had a FTS with me, couldn’t find the waitress, went to the new Jim Bar, good job on that, 2 Dbl vodkas and a Coors light $86. Before Ticketmaster, Manny, Duncan took care of the porch and turf club. Then Hans, Wolfie and his sisters took care of the terrace and carousel and it all worked. I sound like DeNiro at the end of Casino, but …..  I feel much better now. The TG product on the other hand, has been very accurate.

Coward???

Like you think he did it intentionally. The links don’t always come through on many boards. Would you argue over there if there were more than three post a week.

Ask the Experts / Race Shapes for SD Cap
July 27, 2024, 05:49:19 PM
I’ve been a TG user off and on for ~25 years and never seen a race shape look so orderly. It almost looks like an indoor track, ala Olympics not horses.  Not saying it helped in handicapping it, but I’m sure I can come up with an opinion now that it’s been run. Glad for Glatt this Dr. didn’t get caught like his other Dr., Dr. Shivel which still hurts thinking about it.

Sir Barton won The Belmont at 1 3/8 miles. The distance was moved around a few times.

The Met Mile out of The Wilson Chute. Get used to The Belmont in Saratoga for probably 3 years. Make the O/U 2 1/2 years, I’d go over. If they can figure out a way to stay through till Labor Day, that could be 2025. Completely squeeze any novelty of Saratoga dry.

One of the true characters of the game. Never bashful to boast on a horse he liked or bet that horse with both fists. Will be sad to lose the Blu Crew.
