\"we don\'t like his chances of making to the races this summer\" was the comment regarding Badge of Silver in the ROTW analysis.

He refractured his right cannon bone this morning and will need surgery again.

He has one more appeal left before the State Racing Commission in Louisiana and obtained a court order staying the suspension until the Racing Commission rules on his case.

Totally bizarre.

So was it Shuman\'s vet taking the leg to hide something or was it a rival trainer\'s vet taking the leg to find something?

The mention of Pic N Pac brought back fond memories of a misspent youth cutting school and heading to GGF.  The anti war march reference made me think it was 1971 all over again.

Next time you\'re there, Pic N Pac is on the corner of San Pablo & Gilman, at least it still was there the last time I visited the old home town @5 years ago.

Chris Harn copped a plea this morning, pled guilty and agreed to testify against the other 2.

People holding the 5 of 6 tickets can take heart.

Each of this guy\'s pick 6 tickets would have 18 5\'s, right?

He had 96 combinations: 4 singles times 8 horses in the turf times 12 horses in the classic.

1 of the combinations hit 6.  The 7 tickets with Voponi & the losers in the turf hit 5 and the 11 tickets with High Chapperal & the losers in the Classic also hit 5.

The other 77 combos had the 4 singles & the various losers in the last 2 races.

If there are other 5\'s those people are entitled to $ and they should be easy to find as hitting 5 was taxable and you had to sign for it.

If no one has 6 it is possible that they only pay 5, or the highest number of winners, and that there is no consolation.

What a disaster.

One thing to consider, when there is an auxiliary gate in the quarter mile chute, the inside 2 or 3 posts start inside the rail on the main track, so the jocks in the 1-2 & maybe 3 hole have to either gun to the lead and angle out or take way back and angle out. By moving the inside horses out one gate, they make the start a little less rodeo like.

I think the first 2 \"also eligible\'s\" would have been Windward Passage & USS Tinosa so Sunday Break would still be out but your point is well taken.

The line is way unbalanced.  If you convert those odds to %\'s they equal @140% and they should equal @120%.

I think he\'s got the 5 & 6-1\'s too low, Saarland & Perfect Drift too high, and there will be 3 or 4 99-1\'s when all is said and done but we\'ll know for sure in 3 days.

Ask the Experts / Frankie Dettori
April 30, 2002, 07:23:48 PM
I am normally 100% a lurker but \"Derby fever\" has now caused me to post again.

In all the discussion re Essence of Dubai, can someone tell me why Detorri, who is scheduled to fly over and ride Imperial Gesture in the Oaks, is not staying to ride to ride EOD in the Derby, he returns to England to ride a Godolphin horse in the 1000 Guineas.

Now, the 1000 Guineas is the first leg of the English Triple Crown, I think, but he\'s probably won that race before and, if not, he has won other English Classics.  The Kentucky Derby, otoh, is the Kentucky Derby and Godolphin wants to win it badly yet their #1 rider is elsewhere.

Flores is a very good Southern Cal rider but is, imo much better on front runners than closers and Dettori has much more experience in large fields than Flores does.  Furthermore, Alex Solis rode EOD as a 2 year old so it\'s not like they are going back to Flores, it\'s the first time he\'s ridden him.

Any thoughts??

All of the bets are comingled from everywhere now, so the Pat Day in Kentucky factor won\'t be as strong as it has been in the past.

Your line has Buddah co-favored with Harlan\'s Holiday. I think that Harlan will be the clear favorite and I don\'t have any strong opinions on the next 2 or 3 choices except that I think Perfect D will be no longer than the 4th choice.

I\'m a long time lurker and have been following the Derby discussions here for awhile.

For what it\'s worth, I think your line is way too high on Perfect Drift.  Several people here have mentioned him, he is in the top 3 of all the handicappers on the Kentucky Derby page, Steve Haskin mentions him often on the Bloodhorse page.

I like him, people I talk to at the track like him.  I think he may well replace Saarland as the \"wise guy\" play, which probably won\'t do much for his chances.

I also think you\'ve got Buddah & Came Home too low but not off as much as Perfect Drift.
