Some things were going on to buy Stallion Rights to the horse. Someone very prominent. If there was a deal and I say \"if\" the horse could have been moved.

BTW based on what was discussed by Miff and NCT in the other string perhaps the horses health caused the deal to fall through. These things happen. Quality Road got yanked from Jerkins after winning the Florida Derby.

This story has been bizarre at best from day 1.  Nothing out of the Runhappy camp would surprise me.

Just what the game needs.  More scumbags.

She wins a Breeders Cup race and they want to stiff her on a technicality, after firing her.

Real jerkoffs.

Whenever I read about \"Mattress Mac\" I think about furniture maven Nathan Arizona
from the Coen brothers flick \"Raising Arizona\".

I\'m rather certain Ms. Borell will eventually get her money, and the good news is
that they are making great strides with laser tatoo removal.

Having been in a similar situation with Rachel, I can tell you her lawyer\'s first move should be to find a way to get it moved out of Kentucky.

Story now being told is Maria agreed to be paid a salary without the usual 10% trainer bonus to get the horse.Story also says Maria was a caretaker all along and that Laura Wohlers was calling the training shots.

Mc Invale a known hire and fire owner with the reputation of being a real jackoff. If he don\'t take care of Laura he\'s a real scumbag.

I always thought TR received 15% of the winnings?  Does it vary by track?

You know what\'s weird?  When he was building his business in Houston off HWY 45, we lived there, bought a few things, and later met him at KNLD.

He is known locally down there as a very, very generous man to charity and for many years - maybe still - was one of the big benefactors of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (caps intended).

I had a HLS&R jacket on at KNLD and he came up to us and we had a very nice conversation...my how times must have chnaged, but I find it hard to believe actually.  Although I must admit his racing judgement & actions seem to be in conflict with his furniture customer service.

I can\'t resist - regarding the purse disbursement & doll...he\'s \"saving him money\"!

If that were actually the case, with Ms Maria hired to be the onsite presence while the shots were being called from Houston, I can see how her newfound fame would be a tough pill to swallow for Laura.  No idea if that is the case but there are two sides to every story.  That said, they should be ashamed at how they handled this....an absolute PR nightmare.  Why not wait a few weeks before making the move....it would have been a nonissue.

I have owned horses based in California since 1990. The standard fee to a trainer is 10% for a win plus a percent or two for the barn personnel. Daily racing fee and vet bills are separate. That was the way it was in 1990 and still today. I never had a private trainer -- Wally Dollase was my trainer through all the good days -- Deputy Commander, Ten Most Wanted, Meteor Storm, Helmsman, Good Journey. The reason I mention this is because he passed away on Friday -- may he rest in peace. A very good man like most people in this fabulous industry with unfortunately a few exceptions.

I do not have all of the facts regarding this situation but the owner has had a reputation of being a jerk (not the name I generally use for people of his ilk) and the racing manager sounds worse. Lawsuits are very expensive and I am sure the owner is very comfortable in a court room. Good luck to Maria.

to Strikes point , if Maria was compensated as a trainer, i.e,
a commission of 10% as is typical in the industry, in connection with the horses previous wins, MacIngvale and Wohlers have a seriously uphill fight. Of course, the reverse is true- was she compensated differently than trainers are typically compensated previous to the breeders Cup. In addition, if Borel was not really the trainer, I suspect the Ky. horse racing regulatory authorities might be interested in that.

Something to consider:

Borell disputes McIngvale\'s claims that she was a private trainer on salary only. But, if this was the case, she should have been billing the owner monthly including the 10% of purse money from Runhappy\'s very first race.  If she was not billing the owner monthly from the start and was being paid a straight salary, I\'m not sue how a judge can rule in her favor.

But, I would not really want to leave this in a judge\'s hands if I were on either side.

If there was no written contract/agreement, would think there is strong industry precedent to support Maria\'s claim of 10%

One interesting fact is that after the King\'s Bishop win, her twitter account was being blown up.  As I recall there was a tweet she sent out in reply to someone stating something to the effect that Yes, I just received a raise!!  And then there was a mention in a bloodhorse article of a $10k check after the King\'s Bishop that she did not cash.

Point being there was no clear agreement by the parties which is why we are handicapping the outcome of a financial dispute between trainer and owner. I anticipate a settlement with Borell receiving far less than the 100k+ she seeks and with the public never knowing the actual amount.
