Beholder spiked a fever this am, not uncommon for horses that rarely airship. Obviously,if more than that, and requires meds,a tough read for Classic.

Strike one for me, missed a work as a result.

She just worked on Thursday. I don\'t think she was planning to work today. Probably just jog and be allowed to take a look around.
Let\'s see what happens the next 24 hrs. If they have to treat with any antibiotics will be an automatic toss for me...
John
You\'re probably right but last two works were slow. Have to think they wanted to put in a good work this week.

The trainer had said the plan was to just give her another maintenance type work over the Keenland surface later this week. She\'s already fit and they like where she is at, so they weren\'t planning to do anything cute that could put her over top. More of just a \"keep her happy and where she is at\" type of thing.
Some are counting on her to at least pressure AP early on in the Classic. A lot has been made of her Pacific Classic romp, and she did run very fast that day, but to my eye it was against a very week Pacific Classic field. Bayern, Red Vine and Hoppertunity were 2nd, 3rd and 4th betting choices in that field.
The field in the Classic is whole different kettle of fish, and other people on this board have already pointed out that she hasn\'t won outside of CA.
Classic a doozy! Top 4 betting choices all have knocks.
I don\'t see her as an early pace prescence if she goes. Slow works may be intentional. Not sure anyone can go with AP early assuming Liam\'s Map goes in the mile.
I am sure, however, that Smooth Roller will be the most overbet horse on the BC card that day.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
Gary Stevens worked Beholder on the 15th, called it \"scary good.\" Mandella saying \"we don\'t need to build, we just need to keep her where she\'s at,\" eluding to the fact that she\'s had plenty of races leading up to the BC.

Mandella: lung scan on Beholder \"pristine\"
A lung scan on Beholder was "pristine," trainer Richard Mandella said Tuesday afternoon
Tweet - Ned Toffey says lung scan came back clean and bloodwork looks good. White cell count high, might be due to shipping.
Mandella is being elusive.
She missed the BC last year because of a fever. Mandella said her temperature last year was 102 (\"enough to be plenty worried about\") and spiked at 104. He says her temperature yesterday was 101.3. Probably still enough to be plenty worried about.
What\'s my temperature Norton?
Let\'s hope she makes the gate. Nice mare, but that Pac Classic figure is not getting repeated.
BTW: Gary Stevens always caught up in the moment. He\'s writing a book--- \"The 20 Greatest Horses I Ever Rode.\"
Good Luck,
Joe B.
Any thought on the medication?
Mandella - \"I doubt she\'ll train tomorrow, we\'ll have to see what the fever does. But it\'s a great sign that she\'s responded well to medication. She hasn\'t been given anything that would interfere with racing.\"
Let\'s hope she goes....good for the sport, good for the odds on the others, and a bet against for me pre-fever.
Ned Toffey,General Manager of Spendthrift.
"She has been treated with antibiotics and at last check her temperature was normal and her attitude was very good," Toffey remarked. "We are just taking it one day at a time. She is definitely not ruled out [of the Classic].
