What was it Phineas Taylor \"PT\" Barnum said???
Or as Captain Louis Renault said in Casablanca, \"I\'m shocked, shocked to find gambling is going on here.\"
It\'s not gambling. It\'s an intellectual exercise.
WTF??

Ed,
Being looked at in Congress but big money backing DFS.This was the rather creative way DFS is getting around federal laws that prohibit sports betting outside of Vegas.
Once again, this somewhat highlights the difference between the Clueless Clowns running racing and bonafide gaming execs...innovation and creativity.
Mike
So it\'s like any other business, thank god the government is their to save me.
there was an article a few weeks ago (think it was in the NYT)...90% of the $$$ is won by 1.7% of the \'fans\'...No Thanks...
Ha, the \"1.7% fans\" work for Draft Kings and \"Fan Duel.\"You think this is the first guy to do this or the first to get caught?
PS: Hope this never goes away. I love watching the idiots running around sports bars on Sundays screaming for Aaron Rodgers.
Great job buddy---you singled Secretariat.
Good Luck,

My rule of thumb is that if you hear tons of commercials for it on the radio or TV, then it\'s a scam to be avoided. There are no bigger advertisers these days lately than the fantasy sports sites.
Google what the takeout is and you might find that it\'s 8 to 10% I believe that like not at all. Big scam, no doubt with a few fat cats making obscene amounts of money off the idiots.

. . . and if you have inside info re the shape of the day\'s markets, you enjoy a significant edge. This stuff\'s just as funny as rubes playing online poker for hefty stakes: \"Collusion? Huh? Wha?\" Chrono-moronic types.
Just read that the FBI has now \"Opened an official investigation into both operations\". In the end, inside information is inside information and historically operations like this usually crumble...BUT...the NFL owners and MLB have significant investments in both of these \'sites\' (hence the heavy advertising, sponsorship of \'sports bars\', etc...). Will be real interesting how this shakes out...Comments??
John
FBI is investigating to see if these operations are considered gambling.
Personally this is a crock of you know what.
For a free country one that I served 4 years to give those freedoms, I do not need any body to protect me from my self.
If I choose to gamble that is my choice. In my opinion the largest casino in the world is the Stock Market.
Oh the glass houses we live in.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board Oct. 15 ordered daily fantasy sports sites, including DraftKings and FanDuel, to stop taking action because they can\'t operate in the state without a gambling license, the Associated Press reported.

Thank you for your service and God bless you for that. Gamble to your hearts content I have no issue with any individual that participates I just choose to run the other way. My commentary was focused on the fact that these one-day fantasy sites are gambling, but with no transparancy therefore you don\'t know what you\'re up against regarding takeout. We all know what takeout is in horse racing and we bitch about it all the time and rant that we\'d be better players and generate more revenue if it was 10% instead of 16-25%. But to not know what the takeout is in the hyperbolic world of fantasy sports, coupled with the millions and millions of $$ in advertsing...I choose not to participate.
Aceriley?
\"with no transparancy therefore you don\'t know what you\'re up against regarding takeout\"
The entry fee, number of entrants and prize fund are listed in plain text right in front of you when you enter AND are do not change. Anyone who can do math knows what the takeout is.
\"we all know what takeout is in racing\" really? ever ask someone at the track? Did you figure in breakage? What if you get a rebate? Racing\'s takeout is the one that lacks transparency, and it is a big part of why one industry is thriving and one is dying.
Elk:
Pari- mutuel racing has been dying for the last 40 years or so.
Fantasy sports thriving? Not in Nevada, where it has apparently been banned, not
in other states such as NY where it is coming under scrutiny. If the fact
stated in one of these articles is true, with 1.3% of the Fantasy Sports
participants winning more than 90% of the money, is this sustainable?
If I was somehow responsible for marketing thoroughbred racing, I would pay an
exorbitant sum for Draft Kings/Fan Duel customer lists and start some
marketing.
Why don\'t racetracks adopt the Fantasy model and offer wagering which is not
traditionally pari- mutuel? Put a dollar value on every runner on a given race
day\'s card; a player can \"buy\" a stable of horses for the days races (maybe 3
for each race), with the winning player being rewarded for selecting the stable
with the highest purse earnings on the day.
Yes, thank you for your service.
Nevada, where prostitution is legal, but fantasy sports is not...
Online poker is legal in Russia and Iran, not in the USA...
Wonder how Nevada is going to differentiate between say Fanduel and some guys ESPN fantasy league at the office. If that guy collects an entry and pays out prizes, is running an illegal gambling game?

Richie, while I love your posts, the 1.3% winning 90% of the money is because of how the payoffs are usually distributed. There are a few---as in, one or two---big payoffs at the top of these $10 entry fee contests. Everyone else is somewhere between winning $10 and losing their $10 entry fee. That way they can advertise that \"Joe from Duluth put $30 into his account and won $1.2 million!!!\" but obviously a very low percentage of people are going to get a high percentage of the money. If you believe that\'s all fixed, well...another story.

Value judgments. Your comment assumes that all readers think legal prostitution
is an infamilia. Nevada is merely saying (a) Fantasy Sports is gambling
and (b) the state regulates all gambling. The state of Nevada merely wants to
wet its beak.

If you want to move to Russia to play online poker legally, I can help you with
both a travel and real estate agent. My mother in law\'s dacha is
currently vacant, I can get you a sweet deal.

If somebody in my office rips me off say in an NCAA basketball pool, I have the
kind of recourse which comes from physical proximity (ie I\'ll likely attempt to
kick his ass); where is the player\'s recourse when an agent of one of the
companies uses inside information to take down a big pot?
Elk, I have no dog in this hunt; to me Fantasy Sports is a glorified over/under
bet; it is a way of making a game interesting that might not ordinarily be so.
I just think that racing -- in terms of marketing and creating new products to
draw fans in -- has some lessons to learn from Fan Duel/Draft Kings.

Since I do not play Fantasy Sports my fascination will be with this \"fadnomenom\"
-- its amazing unregulated growth and, possibly its equally rapid fall to earth.
Trust that?
Takeout is shown in the Daily Racing Form. At least it was a few years ago when I bought the Form.
