Hot, humid, big crowd, storms all around the Spa that stayed away, Arlington million day and profits for all!!!
A very small turnout for a Saturday seminar, TGAB, Uncle Bill, Warren, Sean, Henry one of our top TG contest players, Dave from MA and yours truly. Alan had a really good day as did our girl Maggie whom I had a very brief chat with walking out yesterday. A stupid line got a big smile; I was with Laura and she was walking right by us and I said. \" hey that\'s the same dress Maggie had on today\" she cracked up said hello and I told her what a big hit she was with the TG boys.
If I were 20 years younger Tom Morley would be toast!!!
Maggie basically said that Sallisaw in the 1st looked like the winner as compared to the rest and was promptly bombed from 6/1 to 7/2 winning easily for the very hot Kiran McLaughlin and she loved Backwood Bay $20.80 with the TAP firster who ran 3rd, a little creativity and a 50/1 splitting those 2 could have rewarded someone very well.
TGAB was on his game nailing Professor Zoom for Rudy in the 3rd @ $12.60,Escapist with the 2,4 in the 7th which I\'ll take credit for talking him onto the 2. Alan was singing the praises of Paco Lopez and his ground saving stats during the seminar but was not crazy about the horse. I merely pointed out per his mention that the horse would be forwardly placed, would save ground and was probably 2nd or 3 rd best in the heat to start with. A little chalky exacta and triple saved me an ATM trip and turned my day around for sure. Kiran struck again in the 8th killing all our pick 4\'s we should be ashamed, Sean, Alan, Bill, Henry and Warren at our little back yard party all using multiple horses and no one on this one.
Henry crushed the 9,10,3 in the 9th, Alan liked the 9 horse had a double into Grand Arch and I believe the pick 3 as well with his boy Elvis in the finale.
I stepped out and made my biggest play of the meet with a significant win bet on Grand Arch as I simply could not believe he went off @ 8/1, no exacta with the King but had the late double pretty well finally on the correct end of a photo.
Some good races at Arlington, the Pizza Man was a bit of a surprise but not unplayable and making loud mouth Ramsey look like a bigger idiot than he truly is.
A legit DQ in the Beverly D. the 10 definitely cost the Kitten the 2nd spot, the Brownies only got one stake and its been a long time since I\'ve seen a horse look as good stepping onto the race track as Highland Reel did in the Secretariat as he jogged under a hammer lock the whole way around. I never ever in my life would flat bet a horse at 2/1 but boy I came awfully close to pulling the trigger on this one and told Laura there is a winner as she is more than happy to pull the trigger on a deli to win a pickle!
Finally the toughest beat of the day:
Monday 8/17 is my 57th B\'day, I very seldom if ever play the random sucker bet of the daily number, usually I\'ll fool around with it around my B\'day but not always.
So on Friday I decided to play it $20 straight for Friday-Monday, last nights number was 017.
Pick4:
Race 7:
Dreaming of Gold is 8/5 ML, no faster than others, draws outside and spots weight. TOSS and use 1,2,5,6
Race 8: Ack Naughty looks tough to go past and is a solid A play,I\'ll save with the 2,8 on small pick 4 tickets and play those 2 underneath the Chadster.
Race9:
The 1 & 5 are faster and have much better pedigree than the rest in this 2 yr old stake.
Race 10:
Grey Stark is tough to go against as Chad Brown owns the 2 yr old 1 1/16 turf races and won\'t make for much a pick 4. It would not be prudent to toss her, but the 1,3,7,8,9 all have some merit.
Good luck to all,
Frank D.
Frank, in the 9th don\'t ignore the two -per Welch, this one \"zipped\" around the track a few days back nd received an unusual B+ grade. Also save with the 6. Perhaps a $1 2,6/1,5 ex. Doubt the pik 4 pays much but I spread with the hope it may in the first two legs.
See you in 2 weeks.
