WOW. Very fast final time, basically in hand for first half mile after
breaking very sharply.
Masochistic is by the unraced Seeking the Gold stallion Sought After out of
the mare Smolensk. Smolensk was a Group 2 winner at 2 and is out of the Grade
1 winning/producing Blush With Pride. (BWP also produced Better than Honour,
the dam of Belmont winners Jazil and Rags to Riches).
No mention in DRF coverage as to whether Masochistic would have to be
supplemented to the BC, and no idea whether Masochistic would be pointed to
the Sprint (6 furlongs) or the Dirt \"Mile\", to be run this year at about 7
furlongs.
Brief research shows that Sought After is not a BC nominated stallion.
General query: How does \"Win and your In\" work if stallion/foal was not BC
nominated? (Triple Bend was not a \"Win/In\" race.)
Great day of racing at the Great Race Place, with the Spa and Del Mar on the
horizon.
No matter what one thinks about TVG personalities/coverage, I hope we can all
keep positive thoughts for Simon Bray.
\"7. A horse that has not been nominated to the Breeders' Cup program will not be eligible to receive payment of starting fees (the total of pre-entry and entry fees) for the Championship race or the travel allowance to the Championships until nominated. The owner of a non-nominated horse may receive payment of starting fees (the total of pre-entry and entry fees) and travel allowance if the horse is nominated to the Breeders' Cup program to the applicable Championship race prior to pre-entry for the Championship race.\"
I believe that LaPenta/Zito\'s un-nominated Coal Play won a \"win in your in\" to the Dirt Mile on the asphalt at Monmouth in the \'prestigous\' Grade III Salvator Mile, but since the Dirt Mile was not run on dirt that year, they did not nominate. I don\'t know if it is more puzzling that the Salvator Mile was considered a \"win and you\'re in race\" or that the BC was conducting \"win and you\'re in races\" on surfaces that bore no resemblance to the surface where the corresponding Breeders Cup Race would be run, as every dirt miler was an automatic toss at Santa Anita.
Thanks MG.
as per Sam Siegel on twitter:
he [Masochistic] wasn\'t nominated as a foal. The stallion was nominated so it\'ll hurt a little less if we do it.
Cost: $100,000

Richie,
In hand may be your greatest understatement ever! Tyler was doing his best jump rider imitation with a total hammer lock on him down the backside. A very very visually impressive race to say the least.
In typical Frank D. pick 4 fashion I was alive with 6 horses in the final leg only to come up empty off a $392.00 pick 3! (2,4,5,6,8,9)
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Masochistic last 3/8ths in 35+secs easily,BC \"mile\" would seem to be the spot.Supplemental BC $$ no object for Samantha Siegel.Would love to see Ron Ellis get some exposure and maybe better stock.
Anyone observe American Pharoah parading at SA yesterday? Noticed a thicker horse thru neck/shoulder/hind end from the one 6 months ago. How is it possible with that TC campaign.Would see many horses look thick pre steroid ban, not so much lately.
P.S. Beyer was 109 for Masochistic, like TG -2 if JB sees it same
miff..
Agree on Pharoah appearance. Looked better than even 2 weeks ago at Churchill. It\'s remarkable.
As for Masochistic.. Was a wow. Ron Ellis on radio this morning to talk about him and the plan(s)..
Kasept,
Masochistic race looks fast all around though maybe not here as field a little slower going in than elsewhere.TGJB, two races back a TG 5 for Masochistic winning an ALW 2X opt62.5cl for older males? Very ugly fig!Fyi that was TG 1.5 in most places.Cannot recall a TG 5 winning an ALW 2X for older sprinters at a major venue.
Heard from Cali pal(observed AP from last year) and he said same.Baffy camp talking 20-30lbs heavier than pre TC run with mini growth spurt.
Makes no sense, have to wonder, maybe this horse just has a very special constitution.Heard/hope AP leaning Haskell, Jersey horsemen need break after Christie threw them under the bus.

Looking at Masochistic\'s PPs, I now recall that this gelding was \"tranked and
yanked\" by Avila/Berrio in his first lifetime start at SA, then sent to CD for a
BIG Derby Day wagering coup @ 2.10/1 (he won by 14 that day).
I remember feeling like I had slipped into the Twilight Zone immediately after that CD race. Like reaching for the light switch on the wall except there was none.
Dazed and confused I went on to the following races. The story broke the next day I think and restored a little of my sanity? Winning a BC race will cement his place in history!
even omar could have won on him today!
or, not. :-)
As someone added a post to this thread it showed up at the top of the board and since I hadn\'t read through the thread they all showed as blue (unread). Was excited to see Miff was posting again only to realize it was from 2015.....
Another kick to the gut after a brutal beating today at the windows.
