Just for Richie.
...you da man, JB, thanks.
any chance saturday\'s card will be up by wed nite
Depends how fast Eqibase sends us the entry file.
Early availability (of big card days) would be welcome here.
The downside? Heavy rains swoop in to make those races unplayable and completely unlike what they may have seemed earlier in the week. Like this Friday? There\'s nothing worse than Belmont Park in the slop with 3 horse fields and a 2-5 Todd.
I subscribe to three private weather services...essentially the weather \'computer models\' for Friday/Saturday (GFS/Euro/Canadian are the main ones) are, at this point, conflicted.. Taking a blended approach there will be a chance of showers on Friday with clearing on Saturday am...should have more confidence in the forecast after Wednesday\'s models (8:00am)
John
Trackjohn...you have issues...jk
Frank D. may have some competition for resident weatherman....
That\'s what my wife says!
However... Being able to read weather maps does have its advantages during football season...
@ trackjohn...mine too!! Lol..
You\'re on the right track John,
Saturday is looking much better but we\'re not there yet!
Back in the dark ages before cell phones, pc\'s, the weather channel, 24 hour news and when only a small percentage of homes had cable tv I used to have a $600 a month phone bill during football season; dialed from the wall phone in the kitchen! Well before speed dial too as the National Weather Service numbers for every pro and college city were on a big poster board and manually dialed.
Good luck,
Frank D.
Frank we used to call a service and get stretch calls of races...not just results. That were available lime 5 minutes after a race. Results for several tracks would be read off at around 7PM on a local Louisville Country music station WTMT. For CALIFORNIA you needed to wait until the next days paper!!!
Someone please keep us posted on the condition of Turf Course. Certainly for our friend Mr Covello. I had heard there was 2 inches of rain earlier but I had also been hearing the course was concrete so it surely needed it. If all this calms down then things actually should he in good shape. Keep us post!!!
AWESOME!! No worse than collecting sports pages of airplanes
Frank... Good to hear from you...ahh...the \'good old days\'! While my phone bill wasn\'t as high as yours it was up there. I remember it being a bit easier back then to get an edge...today, given the info on the web is a \'bit\' tougher! Having said that, is still possible with much more accurate info (ex. personal weather stations < a mile from stadiums, etc..)...is similar to handicapping the races...THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS!
As far as Saturday goes, agree with you...is looking better...however given that I live 11 miles from Belmont, I\'ll be looking out the window early Sat. AM!
John
John,
I can\'t beat looking out the window for sure!
The late 70\'s was when betting totals in football games came into semi vogue, the old time bookies would bitch and most only put out totals on the Monday night game. I saw it as a huge opportunity and obviously weather played an important part; there were many weak lines and few if any bothered with updates.
Lets just say there were many holes and more than a few middles were punched successfully.
Good luck,
Frank D.
Like I said...the good old days! These days (I\'m sure you know) one can find the occasional opportunity in college...can involve checking 60-70 venues/week...generally a pain in the _ss and Vegas has gotten sharper (also OT can kill you!!), but can still be done....On to Belmont both Fri./Sat...looking forward to your insight!
Best, John
At least the forecast is looking better than a few days ago here, cool temps also a plus for horses.
At this point Friday, chance of widespread showers... Sat. 78 degrees and sunny...
