Title: Ron Anderson
Post by: Tavasco on May 31, 2015, 01:39:18 AM
I recently read (DRF I believe) that Mr. Anderson just had heart bypass surgery. One of those my chest and arm hurt - OK we\'d better operate asap situations.

I don\'t know Ron but he is somewhat of a hero of mine and I wish him a complete and speedy recovery.

On a side note his guy Joel rode good priced winners in the 2nd @ BEL and the 4Th @ PEN. Just when he looked committed to his slump he goes and does that.

I am not being sarcastic, and your posts are always fair, but why would anyone have a jockeys agent as their hero?  I could see having a jockey be your hero if he made you a big score.  Or even Jerry Brown if his numbers cashed you in, but a jockeys agent?  Who else has heroes in this business?

Not my heroes, but some of the more colorful characters and hustlers on the
backstretch have been jock\'s agents.

Salesman, babysitter, diplomat, chauffeur ... agents wear many hats.

Most of all, these are guys who, as much as anyone else, rely on picking live
horses to make a living.

Richie,

When you\'re up here this summer sit down with Uncle Bill for an hour and just let him roll on Vince DeGregory stories! You will laugh and shake your head for the rest of the meet I promise.

Dr. Bill aka Uncle Bill

First of all thanks for posting your reaction and thoughts because they led me to a couple of enjoyable memories (below). They key here is the word \"hero\" (as you astutely zeroed in on) does not really convey my thought. I used the expression \"somewhat of a hero\" and if I had been more awake I would have used different terminology. Now that I\'m awake...

On to metaphors and memories. Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley impressed my eyes and ears yet the music was the work product of another. Spector\'s flaws and mistakes are separate from my pleasure of his accomplishments.

One of my favorites sights is driving by the Marin County Civic Center on US Hwy 101. My pleasure is in the appearance my respect is not for the building contractor but rather the architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

I\'ve read a couple of articles on Anderson and they convinced me he brings innovation and intelligence to his vocation. Maybe I should be respecting the articles scribe but I landed on Ron because he was hurting and I hoped in his thoroughness he may occasion a glance at this board. More than coincidence (IMO) that he is connected with so many winners.

In the end, I was thinking about my appreciation for his unsung ability as a handicapper. That said I would love to hear some of your stories Frank D. refers to alas I don\'t expect any revisits to the wonderful SPA this time around.

Wrong Bill Tavasco,

Uncle Bill as in Spillane who has 50 plus years on the race track and has been with TGJB since day one was the reference.

Dr Billy M is merely a poodle primper in VT !!!
LOL He\'s actually a very good Vet.

Thank you for the update. Frank D.

I was curious about DrBill, speculating that he was an English professor or Linguist, last time he busted my chops about inductive vs deductive logic if memory serves me.

Nice to be the subject of conversation and thank you Frank for the kind plug.  Tavasco, first of all, I appreciate your response, which was quite insightful.  I was a bit reluctant to post what I said, because so many times on this board people respond in an aggressive manner, such as in the recent ROTW thread which went completely out of control.
Your explanation of the use of the term hero was quite brilliant, and I am not a linguist(tho my wife is!).  And it was not I that berated you on inductive vs. deductive reasoning.  I try not to get involved in that, especially on this board.
My hero(besides my veterinary professor who invented wobbler surgery on horses) is Chris McCarron.  The week that his mother died, he rode Deputy Commander to a nose victory over favored Behrens in the Travers.  One of my buddies and I emptied our wallets to bet on him.  The third buddy had bet on Behrens.  After the races we went to an Italian restaurant and at a table nearby was Chris and about 12 family members. The friend who bet on Behrens said, \"there,s that little %&*# that cost me a fortune.  But as Chris walked by our table, losing buddy was first to congratulate  him and he chatted with us for several minutes.
So your thread has stirred up some fine memories for me as well.  Looking forward to the Spa this summer!
