Title: Ironicus
Post by: Silver Charm on May 18, 2015, 06:09:43 PM
I guess a case could made for the Dixie figures that he followed the runnerup who was running 4\'s. And Ironicus had a top of 5, while all the others who had been running 2\'s were caught 10 wide turning for home. So therefore Ironicus didn\'t really move up a lot, some but not a lot.

Yes he went from having NO trip to a dream trip but looked shot out of a cannon once clear off the rail and galloped out from Pimilco to the Potomac ahead of the rest of the field....

A half to a bunch of fast ones and almost all that mares siblings got a lot better at 4 and even 5. In the hands of a conditioner who has handled a decent turf horse or two, namely Lure and Point of Entry. The 15-1 morning line looks almost laughable now ( no I didn\'t have him) but this one could make the summer interesting in a pretty even division at or around this distance!!

After this race, I went back to look at the sheets to see what I missed. He had a nice pattern, but there were at least 6 or 7 faster coming in. For me, without hitting the all button, he was hard to use. What I want to know is with so many faster horses in this race, how did he go from 15-1 to 7-1? It appears somebody knew something..........

Performance figures are based on final time.  This colt closed as fast as horses can run in his previous, given the nearly 1:15 for three quarters in that heat.  Grass races are more about pace, trips and configuration than final times. bbb

Most of my good TG scores are playing turf races, and I\'m not playing the slower horses.

The style of racing may be different than dirt, but for me the turf numbers are much easier to use and win. They are phenomenal.

Don\'t beat yourself up over playing like this. A good friend of mine did the same thing and then put $50 to win in this one at the last minute as a Pk-4 Saver because he was live on tote and all the connections looked scary. Considering he was spreading to eat AP in Preakness this turned out to be a great move.

Ground and trip and had a lot to do with the results of this race. The 1-2 finishers get the rail...Bird the Grandstand side trip. But I know what I saw from the 1/8th pole and a quarter mile past the wire. And I\'m not forgetting. Horses running 2\'s are leading this division.
