Trainer winning at 33% with 6 starters but no TG figure based starts? Don\'t understand.
Richiebee can explain it to you. It\'s a pet peeve of his.
I received a very well reasoned response from TGAB regarding why the sample
size for TG run based v figure based stats can vary widely. Example: Looking
at International Star\'s pre Derby graph, one sees that the sample for \"Run
Based\" is 6312 starters; for \"TG Figure Based\" it is 2897 starters. If I can
find TGAB\'s most excellent explanation, I will bring it to the fore.
While looking at pre Derby sheets, I noticed the following, regarding
trainers\' TG Figure Based stats:
Maker 18/29/27/26 (top/pair/off/x).
Pletcher 17/31/27/25
Baffert 17/32/27/24
KMac 17/31/25/26
Mott 18/33/30/20.
I think I was a little surprised at how close these profiles are, especially
regarding % of tops, and we are talking sample size in the thousands here.
I just wanted to know how the trainer could have a black type 33% win rate from 6 starters and goose eggs under TG Figure-Based stats. It seems like contradictory information. Is this data good or should I just ignore it? The horse won, by the way.
Short answer-- different criteria. To choose one obvious example, figure based stats require a minimum number of previous starts-- if a horse is claimed out of his first start and wins back (or wins his debut) he won\'t get counted.
