I have truly enjoyed- and learned from the many posts on this Board regarding next week\' s derby.Like many of you I fight- usually unsuccessfully- the urge not to over bet . Like others friends who have no interest in horse racing throw money at me to \" make my best best\" for them. ( Trial work is easy compared to that type of responsibility. I acknowledge to having a bias when I approach the derby ( beyond searching for the long shot that gives me bragging rights). I try to search for the teenager- that is what 3 year olds are- ready to make the step to the NBA or NFL. Before- long before TGJB- had his current web site, I learned much of what I currently know about the sheets and developmental patterns from the old tapes Jerry gave out with unmistakable voice of Julian W doing seminars. While it cannot be disputed that there are at least 6 or 7 horses who have run negative numbers thus far it is no guarantee they will do so next Saturday. For what it is worth of those I sort of like Carpe Diem and Frosted ( would like him better if the forward move had been a tad lass). Like some of you I Like Firing line. The bomb I will obsess about is Danzig Moon. Purely in terms of development it is a wonderful sheet. Ran a 6 3/4 top as a 2 year old, came back with a new top (4) at. GP, got the bounce out of the way at TB and ran a big new top chasing Carpe Diem. That is a pattern ( no disrespect to Thoropattern) that I will always bet to move forward to a new top. I grant you that a new top may not be enough but since he will be at least 30-1 and folks on this Board are looking for a trifecta or superficial score- they could do worse. I also invite all to try to find a video of Mubtaahijs last race. His numbers are his numbers and I have no idea what he beat but the explosiveness down the stretch was something to see.(he will be long as well). Good luck to all.
Rich,
A great post. I\'m leaning toward Carpe Diem as my key horse, post position key for him 10-15 I hope. IMHO he is sitting on a big forward move off his pairs and with the patience he has been handled with aimed for next Saturday.
You will never get the ML price on Mubtaahijs; Euro dollars and the wise guy angle will drag him close to CD. I can envision Materiality, Mub and CD all sandwiched in the 9-12/1 range. We\'ll see.
Good luck,
Frank D.
