Title: Workouts
Post by: pizzalove on April 23, 2015, 06:03:15 PM
Has anybody been watching the workouts on Kentuckyderby.com?  I am getting even more confused.  I guess Mr. Z looked ok yesterday.  AP did not show the smooth action he is so famous for.  I wonder if it is the track.  Welsh raved a little about Danzig but it didn\'t look like anything.

Also on a brighter note Pharoah did not look light at all.  Again I am viewing this on a TV screen but it is very high def.  If he lost any weight a couple weeks ago it looks like it is back on.  Appearance looks sharp and fit.  Nice horse.  Definitely the best looker I have seen so far.

Carpe diem and Upstart to me win the looks contest but then again Carpe diem did cost 1.6 million so he better look good lol

I definitely agree with you on Upstart.  Real looker.  I thought he and Dortmund were the most physical looking specimens.  I did see Carpe Diem live and was not that impressed.  Thought Ocho looked like the nicer horse before the blue grass.  Just my opinion.

Of note today are Dortmund doing a final quarter in 22.3 and Moop supposedly getting his final quarter in 23 (it was not timed by clockers, but by computer equipment the stable uses).

I really wanted to hate Moop given the no lasix and the continental travel, but after seeing his fig, this nice workout (if he truly came home that well), and running style relative to the field, it is getting harder to discount him.

In terms of what I like about the race, I like Moop and will definitely use him.  I did a little research.  That sire is really something.  In a four year stretch he sired horses that won 25 Grade I\'s (albeit on turf) all over the world and quite a few are at 1-1/4.  He\'s a half to Prix de l\'Opera winner Lily of the Valley.  Broodmare sire is a Grade I winner as well.  Class and distance in spades, and his pattern is there for a new top.

I like him and right now I lean towards tossing the Baffert horses to try to make a buck.
