Title: Has Anyone Noticed?
Post by: joemama on April 21, 2015, 05:02:15 AM
That information regarding pre derby works many not be as readily available as in the past.  I get HRTV and TVG in the areas I live and upon checking their program guides I see no reference to shows that would be dedicated to pre derby workouts.  I know there\'s Steve Byk\'s radio show to listen to to get some opinions on workouts but as of now it looks like there will be no visuals unless the handicapper ponies up the money. Hopefully I am wrong about this.

The main reason is there are fewer Derby horses on the grounds at this time than in the past.  Mike Welsch has just started reporting daily from Churchill for DRF this week.
As someone with a bet already in on American Pharoah in future pool 3, I\'m pleased that he is already on the grounds, jogging over the track & will have a workout over the track.  I see it as an advantage over his stablemate Dortmund who is staying in California until next week & will only jog over the Churchill surface after his last workout at Santa Anita.  I also think having Mubtaahij working out on poly at Arlington makes no sense.

Good for American Pharoah bing at churchill.  Listened to Mike Welch on Steve\'s Byk\'s show this am on the archives from yesterday and there are a number of others  at Churchill but many are not there. I think they wanted to keep Mubtaahij working on synthetic because that\'s what he is used to working out on.

Did they have a synthetic training track in Dubai?

Dortmund already raced and won over the CD surface, doubt anyone has an edge over him there.

Yes, there was a tapeta surface in Dubai.

Dortmund is gonna have to drift up in price. A horse that everyone hates can\'t go off at 4-1. Wonder how high the odds will go?

They tore the Tapeta out on the track they race over this year, so unless they kept a synthetic training track it\'s gone.

British books have AP 2-1 and Dortmund at 5-1. Hard to imagine an undefeated easy-peasy SA Derby winner trained by Baffert drifting much higher than that, no?

Not sure what your talking about.

1) There was a tapeta surface at Dubai.

2) The horse will spend two days in quarantine at Arlington Park before heading to Kentucky, where he will take up residence at Skylight Training Center in Goshen, run by trainer Conor Murphy, along with business partner Justin Curran.  Skylight training center is near Louisville Ky. A polytrack surface.

Tapeta was replaced by dirt this year.  That\'s why a lot more north American horses went over this year: http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/shared_content.cfm?id=482

MEYDAN TO RETURN TO DIRT SURFACE
The world's richest race, the $10 million G1 Dubai World Cup, will once again be contested on dirt after it was announced yesterday that Meydan Racecourse will replace its Tapeta track with dirt. Meydan has used Tapeta, in addition to its 2400 meter turf track, since its opening in 2010, but will have its new dirt surface installed in time for the 2014/15 racing season.

The training track at Meydan is synthetic

Skylight has a Polytrack surface, and Mubtaahij has done all his training in Dubai over their Tapeta surface training track, so it is natural for trainer Mike de Kock to want to train the colt on a synthetic surface and follow the same routine that has proven so successful.

Thanks.  That\'s what I was looking for & couldn\'t find because I searched only on the track itself.
