Title: UAE Derby Question
Post by: aceriley on March 25, 2015, 06:38:53 PM
The UAE Derby is on Saturday and carries the same Derby point values as the FL Derby and LA Derby. The UAE Derby has a South American 4 year-old entered, the until recently undefeated Sir Fever. It is my understanding that Sir Fever is not eligible for the KY Derby.  If he wins, what happens to the 100 points? Do they go to the second place finisher?  I ask because of my future book bet on Mubtaahij, who beat him last out.  Thanks in advance if anyone has the answer.

I don\'t know the answer to your question, yet, but I suspect your idea makes too much sense. If the points are won by a horse that is not nominated, my guess is those points disappear. So two refinements to the point system could be considered i.e.

1. The points could accrue to the top nominated horses and adjusted for late nominees. When deciding to include the UAE Derby (a great idea but not as simple as awarding points to the Sunland Derby) who thought to consider the dates or the entrants would not be nominated - maybe they will get special treatment. Then again the Euro\'s may not want any part of the Triple Crown money grab.

2. The B.C. Juvenile could be a win and you\'re in ala BC qualifiers. Thereby avoiding a repeat of the Texas Red scenario.

Regarding the other DWCC races, I do not trust any of the America horses simply because of the no Lasix conditions.

I do like the Japanese runners including Super Jockey in the sprint (even against the Aqueduct monster number maker Salutos Amigos) almost as much as you Like Mubtaahij it would be great fun if he won and shipped in not to mention your ticket would be alive!

Has Da Klerk expressed his intent?

I don\'t know the answer either, but to clarify something Tavasco said, the points don\'t just disappear.  Dubai Sky won the Spiral and at the time was not nominated to the Derby.  He was a late nominee and keeps the points he earned.

Your future bet looks pretty good right now.  Perfect trip, rating off the pace and just exploded in the stretch.

Best of luck

Hell of a call on that horse, picking him back in Jan.  Best of luck!

Wow, that was impressive.  Hopefully they bring him over early to give him plenty of time to recover from the trip and to acclimate.  This is shaping up to be an amazing Derby.

Time stacks up really well with the World Cup, especially the way he came home.  Would have made Lea and CC work for it, which is saying something.  Best Dubai contender in a long time.

I normally dismiss Desert to the Derby horses but this one is trained by de Kock and his pedigree is all distance and I like how he goes out early and just keeps going. He seemed worthy of a future book bet this year at 90-1 I don\'t normally bet the future book. That said, I just played a future book exacta box in Pool 4 with Covello\'s Far From Over- I like that combo at nice odds.

You may end up the CD favorite or co-favorite.  As of now, probably one of the best ideas you\'ve ever had. Well done!

The exacta with Covello\'s stead is also inspired. His silence on this board is deafening. He is probably so exciting and optimistic (but well versed on insider information) that he will pop if he doesn\'t vent soon.

That was an exacta box right?

Yes nice exacta box with Mr. Covello\'s colt. Can\'t wait to hear from him on either his colt or mine to get his opinions. Not that it matters, the wagers are already in. My niece is getting married on Derby Day darn her- I might not even be able to watch the race darn it!
