Title: Big Cap
Post by: P-Dub on March 05, 2015, 10:58:07 AM
Flying out tomorrow morning for my annual Big Cap trip. My wife is going with me, she has replaced the guys that used to go. Love having her around, but I miss the days of non-stop gambling with my race track buddies.  If anyone will be there give me a shout, first cold one is on me.

Maybe a ROTW from one of the many stakes races that day??

Can Shared Belief lose if he doesn\'t fall down?

Looks like firm and fast with weather in the mid 70\'s. I know East Coast guys, I can go bleep myself for bringing up the weather.

Last thing, I\'m looking for another dinner spot.  The Derby is always on the schedule, but we are done with the Tokyo Wako experience. Been going to both places for years. Staying at the Embassy, right next door to The Derby. Not looking to travel a great distance.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

For a memorable experience I understand the Anaheim White House is it!

Since overpriced is a recent topic - this appears to be it. How ever, most all agree the food is delicious.

The decor & ambience is is is historic?  unusual? Gaudy, Ridiculous! May require a major score. Yet appears cheaper than New Years Day brunch @ Aqueduct.

Have not been there myself, preferring the original El Torito\'s on Topanga (too far) or the Van Nuys Bob\'s  as a young valley guy. No Spenger\'s anywhere near.

Right out of Santa Anita on Huntington, left and straight down Rosemead to the long time racetracker institution in Pico Rivera.. The Dal Rae. If you remember and liked Monty\'s in Pasadena, you know what to expect.

Tableside Ceasar Salad. Rock Shrimp appy. Famed House \'Pepper\' Steak. The kind of place that doesn\'t exist anymore..

If you want to go into downtown L.A., Pacific Dining Car a similar landmark and treat too.. And open 24 hours.

Do not go to Pacific Dining Car.  Place should be shuttered. I had been there ten years ago,(okay).  Recently went out of necessity.   $28 hamburger, inedible.  Steaks $50-$70.  A funeral parlor would have better ambience.  They are the only game in their area of downtown.  Please avoid.

PDub - my wife and I went to Smitty\'s after the Friday Breeder\'s Cup last fall.  It was excellent.  I think you would like it.
