1. Calculator is, at least, the best 4 loss 3 y/o in U.S.
2. East vs West numbers are certain to be controversial again this year. I won\'t be betting any east to west shippers.
3. Hoping Lord Nelson comes back sometime soon.
In reviewing Calculator\'s race, I will agree with you he did look impressive, especially when you take into consideration how wide he was going around the Santa Anita oval.
However, as I review the sheets, I can\'t help but notice that his previous figures were far more superior to his competition. So for this one, I\'m going to knock it down a notch and put it in the \"Who-did-he-beat?\" category.
Seeing that he eventually is going to run into the likes of Texas Red, American Pharoah and others out west, (or will he ship elsewhere?) the West Coast contingent should be a lot of fun this year.
Looking forward to the Robert B Lewis on Feb. 7.
Calculator 97 Beyer on Sat.True he laid over yesterday beating nothing but his prior 2nd place finish behind American Pharoah makes him legit, class/competition wise.Santa Anita surface wickedly wet fast all day producing raw times off the charts.
So another very fast young 3yr old. Judging off the other route won by Hoppertunity the fig could be in the TG 1.5 range if JB agrees with Beyer.Only other service reporting in had it slower like TG 2.75 but that\'s still very strong at this time.
Calculator a serious player for the derby as of today, tomorrow who knows.
Agree, that he has made his mark on the early Derby trail. But I\'m not sure his In Summation breeding lends him the 1 1/4 mile distance.
Trainer Peter Miller has certainly raised his game regarding the national training spotlight, and his post race comments indicate that Calculator may be headed to the RB Lewis stakes Feb. 7 barring any setbacks.
The RB Lewis is shaping up to be a very strong field with potentials of American Pharoah, Dortmund, Texas Red and others, (however, we all know that Baffert will keep AP and Dortmund separated until the very last moment, assuming they both make it to the Derby.)
Also very interested in what the figs come back for Rock Shandy, the Lemon Drop colt, also trained by Miller.
\"But I\'m not sure his In Summation breeding lends him the 1 1/4 mile distance\"
Agree, but after too many years, think distance breeding is secondary to what a horse shows on the track.Seems way too many outrun the distance they were bred to run well at.
In Summation isn\'t the only parent. Look at his bottom side. Lots of stamina influences. I have 3 words for you: Bold Ruler, Secretariat.
