Probably the best contest site, very reputable, wide variety of races and entry fees.

On a weekend where nothing really caught my eye pari- mutuelly, and the weather
prevented many other conventional weekend options, I fooled around with a
couple of Derby War contests.

I found the website rather easy to navigate and very user friendly, and while
I did not cover myself in glory in any of the the 3 contests I played in, I
managed to keep myself occupied for a few hours.

Questions:

1)Will activity on sites such as this cut into what is left of *
traditional pari-mutuel handle?

2) Does an operation such as Derby Wars have to pay some kind of tribute to
the racetracks whose races are used for these contests?

3) Has any racetrack or ADW tried to utilize a Derby Wars type platform?

Comment: My wagering preference is DD/P3/P4, and I did not see any contest
which included these type of wagers. So for now the traditional combination of
TVG (ugh) and ADW (with the occasional live visit to the track sprinkled in)
will remain the way things are done here in permafrosted Living Room Downs.

-------
* I think on track handle at AQ on Wednesday was less than $500,000, the
lowest I\'ve ever seen on a day when the entire race card was completed.
Hope Mr. Kay is enjoying his bonus somewhere warm.

Richie - re your last comment about TVG - Have not watched TVG in long time so would not want to comment it\'s current content, but back then, yes indeed, I echo your \"ugh.\" It was mind numbingly bad.

However I have just recently subscribed to HRTV\'s stream. It\'s $10/month and have found some of their info and presentation extremely useful. Specifically Caton Bradar\'s gulf stream stuff. It\'s obvious she gets all the drf workout reports and brad free clearly get\'s harrington\'s reports for out west.  At any rate, have found it at the least not a presentation that makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

I would think even the rebaters and those with inside information are finding the cards devoid of betting interest. I sure am.

NYRA CEO Kay stated that there is \"demand\" for NYRA winter racing which confirms how out of touch he is with the gamblers.

Horse tourneys is a good one too.

There very addicting. Derbywars software is better. Horsetourneys has lower rake on tourneys with more then 2 people around %10. Derbywars rake is %12-16 on more then 2 people tournaments. Heads up there about the same.

Phil:

I have had limited experience with HRTV. The presence of Millie Ball just
proves that we Americans think that anyone with an English accent needs to be
paid attention to when it comes to golf or horse racing. (I am as guilty as
anyone, I guess. As a young golf fan, I hung on Henry Longhurst\'s every thickly
accented word.)

Someone made the point that Television Games Network is named so there is no
real permanent connection with horse racing. The TVG \"experts\" have already
started a segment concerning fantasy sports (ie \"FanDuel\" and the like); a
great deal of advertising on TVG touts Betfair\'s online casino wagering. The
point seems to be that with the increasing popularity of fantasy sports, the
launch of online casino wagering and the inevitable arrival of legalized sports
wagering (possibly in time to rescue Monmouth Park?), combined with the
continued \"shrinkage\" of thoroughbred racing *, TVG has positioned
itself to \"pivot away\" from thoroughbred racing when the time is right, no name
change and only minor rebranding necessary.

Whether these are tracks you attend or bet on, there is no assurance that a
single race will ever be run at Suffolk, Colonial or Atlantic City in the near
or distant future.

Great points Richie. Sure as heck you\'re right about TVG\'s pivot away from racing.

Have not tried DFS myself yet but have a ton of (non betting) friends who have. They love it. Which I suppose is exactly their target market.

Always thought it was a cruel irony that Betfair sponsored/owned TVG and yet, for the most part bar NYRA, non of the big tracks (Frank/CDI) are available on it.

About HRTV, yeah have really been impressed. Some of the hosts you can tell are just going through the motions but you can also tell that a few of them clearly use TG. They don\'t come right out and say that\'s why they like a horse but they way they talk around it becomes pretty clear.

Actually there is one HRTV host that frequently mentions Thorograph\'s figures in his analysis of the race.  And another correspondent on there from time to time will make a point to mention TG\'s figs in her discussion.
