For those of you that are new to thoro-graph; if you want a basic lesson in reading patterns?
Tomorrow pull up the Red Board sheet for today\'s 3RD race on the winner Captain Gaughen, you will never see a better example of an 0-2-X pattern than this one.
I even got Uncle Bill to admit there is such a thing as 0-2-X today!!!
Good luck,
Frank D.
Hi Frank
I been around a long time here, way before the thoro pattern thing started. The 0-2-x thing was generally the way we went, however, I don\'t believe it really exists for the most part. The thoro pattern thing proved that. I think it really does not apply at all anymore. Sure it works sometimes, not enough to justify what we all thought years ago, things have really changed the last several years, like everything else in life, the golden years have/are passing, but thats for another thread.
Rich
Being able to bet every track in the world from your living room is pretty golden.
Are you speaking of the golden years of easy sheet reads? Was it ever?
OB
there were golden years, many, but with social media, computer software, the dying off of long time bettors, drugs, and the many now buying sheets, etc, the pie is being sliced by the know it alls. Betting from your living room is just not as fun as going down. And for some reason the sheets and the reads seem different at least to me, its being bothering me for at least a year or so, something has changed, hence my betting and purchase have reduced by 90% or more. Yes, the golden years are done. I am sure JB would say the golden years were the 70\'s and 80\'s when no one had access to this info.
When the masses have access..........
Hi Rich,
Ahhh the good old days!!!
I go back there too my friend although in the early 80\'s it was with brand R, waiting at the Spa City Diner for the Trailways bus to bring the sheets up from NY. Oscar introduced the game to main stream chemistry, the computer, batch betting, rebate whales as opposed to handicappers, co mingling of pools and all the used to be inside information (shoes and first geldings) that is now avaialble to the masses has made it more difficult for sure. Toss in the the drug depleted breed and pharmacists as opposed to horsemen training horses and my interest and wagering dollars have declined significantly as well.
Bill Spillaine insits there is no such thing as an 0-2-X, he calls it a bounce after 2 efforts! Semantics I guess but I still find it a basic pattern that is often misinterpted that still will produce a good price.
As far as the thoro pattern disproving it? There you have me completely lost. I can honestly say I have never bet a horse who was fast because he was 66% to pair or run a new top. The thoro pattern is far too random a sample for me. How many horse in that sample were 3/5, how many were 50/1, off the turf races, mud, trips, et all...... Paralysis by over analysis IMHO.
Good luck,
Frank D.
Frank, regarding the thoro-patterns, I\'ve recently changed my prep and used the sheets much more this summer than ever before and done much better basing all my plays outside of 2YO races on the pattern. Saved most days if you want to have a look. I meant to send to alan and Jerry last year, but it was during Derby when they are far too busy to ponder it. Perhaps after the meet end I should. I think it\'d make a great product and save me a lot of time.
0-2-X-0 was tracked for a 7 month period(from TG sheets for NY/CALI/KENTUCKY) about 6 years ago. The strike rate on the whole 0-2-X-0 pattern, within a 75 to 100 day period from the initial race, was 4%, appearing to be nothing more than a random occurence.
If you tracked it every 6 months or so, the results may be different but no way it comes up a strong play overall.
Mike,
0-2-X rule is all 3 races on the same surface within 42 days of the initial race.
Frank,
Ooops,Thought the string referred to 0-2-X-0.
Stay hot!!!!
Mike
There is an interesting 0-2-X in the race right after the Travers Today.
Fifty Shades was an 0-2-x kind of thing yesterday, from memory.

Don\'t have TG today, but a quick peek at the DRF
has me guessing #10 Bartiromo, currently 11-1.
#6 Equilateral...sort of, not strictly, too much time
and different surface, but at 19-1 I can take some
insurance here with a Dutch.

Oh Well!

Horse got a good trip but was empty in the lane.
I don\'t need a whole lot of reasons to bet a 19-1
shot:
\"4 legs? check\"
\"tail? check\"
\"live shot / reason / angle? check\"
\"rider smarter than a sack of monkey sh*t? erm...\"
OK, send it.
congrats. The development of this race and the result should not be so surprising.
