A beautiful day, an announced crowd of 40,000 and most of the pass holders must have been there as it was like a Travers day; it was crowded.
Top Cat snuck in for an early appearance and even had a good day, Jerry\'s friend Howard from Florida had the best hit of the day betting $100 to win on the O\'Brien favorite in the Arlington 8TH but punched in Saratoga 8TH on his ipad and when he checked his twin spires balance he couldn\'t figure out how even money paid $ 1,450.00; I guess its truly better to be lucky.
Jess Not Jesse in the 2ND, Reality in the 4TH were strong TGJB opinions on a non inspiring Saturday card, Catholic Cowboy with the Pletcher favorite was a play in the 5TH, Cozy Kitten ruined a big play on the 1,2,3 (especially the 1,2) in the 7TH and TGJB wacked a nice $197 exacta with Dream Saturday & Waco in the 8th, with a couple Arlington winners. Far and away the best Saturday seminar selections of the meet.
Richiebee and Magic Night checked in via texts to say hello to the boys. I have been a bit worried about Richie as it was reported that he was seen drinking lemonade after the TG Open. My mind was put at ease with a 10:20 AM text that his wife was complaing that his beer was taking up too much room in the refrigrator and he was planning on solving that problem pronto!
I was off and running with the first 2 legs of hefty pick 4 play and was said to be heard in Staten Island rooting Joint Return home at 24/1 as Maria did not stop running! All for naught as the final leg was empty anyway and Richie I did not have the exacta, Maria was a toss for me and I only was horizontal in the sequence.A retraction on Kendrick 3W Carmouche he rode a great race yesterday glued to the rail until the stretch.
Thanks as always to Steve Byk who has created a nice home base for the boys to gather once again and special thanks to Tina for taking the table cloths home to wash on Friday mostly due to Uncle Bill Spillaine and yours truly lunching there during the week, love heavy mustard on those dogs! Of course TGJB promptly knocked over my friends very sticky raspberry/something hard lemonade all over a clean table cloth and took out Howard\'s racing form as well.
Today is my birthday, 56 pieces and I\'m taking a mental health day off of the track and playing living room downs; 3 straight days of taking body blows has me a bit surly to say the least.
Good luck,
Frank D.

Sweet \"autocorrect\"!
(\'Cause it damn sure wasn\'t a Twin Spires rebate.)

Sure about that number, Frank? Mind if we punch it
into Howard\'s iPad?
LOL. Kidding, of course. Enjoy your birthday at LRD,
my favorite place to play as well.

A good day? . . . to be sure . . . now that we\'re at Alabama weekend, we\'ve seen who\'s capable of what, and there are fewer off-the-wall, rank surprises. Will employ Saturday\'s strategy, today -- let the early ones go by, and then invade at the Race 6 juncture, and take it from there . . .

If you didn\'t chase bad numbers and restrained yourself from swinging for the fences on extended horizontals, Saturday at the Spa was a great day to be a T-Generate.

And by \"bad numbers\", I mean of course bad/inferior prices, reflecting public infatuation resulting in broadly-diminished value.
The word I got is Frank got out for life today.
Well, then. Happy belated birthday, Frank!
Let\'s just say ST. Albans Boy gave me a nice belated vertical & horizontal B\'day present.
Thanks Bob.
SAB was so strong, he even overcame Angel Serpa . . .
Frank, looking at St Albans & I love the pattern but clearly 2 points slower than several horses. Can you give some insight as how you ended on him. Hope to see you on Saturday.
George
Hi George,
It was going to take a 4 to win the race; there was no reason to believe any of those that had run would or could run faster, a group with established and repeated tops often paired. One horse had a couple of back 3\'s but was very off form recently.
One of the nuances I\'ve learned in the past 6 or 7 years of attending the seminars, spending a lot of time with Bill Spilliane during the week and a few chats with Julian a couple years ago is that horses with subtle forward moving patterns who are not quite fast enough often run that break out race at a great price. TGAB when he does the analysis selects many such horses although he usually doesn\'t bet them! :) I can\'t count the number of times TGJB has said at sometime during their 3 or 4 year old season even the medicore ones will run that break out race and establish their lifetime top.
Simply selecting horses that could possibly run a new top when they are slow going in is a sure way to the poor house.
BUT:
When they are 30/1 morning line, with an obscure trainer and rider you do not need to be correct that often to make a profit.
If you looked at the dams side of the profile you will see some 2\'s and a lot of low turf numbers produced on that side of the pedigree. The dams side is often overlooked as we tend to concetrate on turf sires.
The trainer who I was not at all familair with had 10 starts for they year with 7 in the money and 4 wins with a very healthy ROI in the 6\'s. Angel Serpa although bashed by my friend Top Cat rides the Tampa turf course very well in the winter and the majority if his wins come on that surface as well as being 4/8 with the trainer. Last but not least was trainer intent, why was this horse in
Saratoga?

Ha! Serpa\'s summertime form has been less than exemplary (though I, too, did OK with him at Tampa over the winter, especially when he was riding some Motion BMW), and the ride on Your Hero was hardly textbook, but the horse got it done. Trainer obviously has something going, given his % figs, and I love anticipating the jump-up before the jump-up, at big numbers. Was very nice of the public to let SAB drift from 12 to 21-1 in the final flashes . . . you should send the school a nice contribution!
Frank
Thanks for explaining your take. Oh, btw my motto is more Semper ubi sub ubi!
LMAO
T you are far more eloquent than I!
I much prefer numquam ubi sub ubi:)
Frank, good read. I have one point to add. The horse ran two 16s then an 11 at 3 and this year came out w/6.5. That number, jump, could have hurt him bad but didn\'t. He bounced 2 points or so and then came back around. In others words, he was a late starter but he always displayed strength. And while he may have been tapped out, to forecast a new top, a slight one or so, given his past behavior was a good bet at the price. Easy to say now but once he got to the track everything he did was positive and that\'s something to look for when betting a horse to do something it\'s never done before.
Good bet and a good result. Congrats.
