Title: Triple Crown and .400 hitter
Post by: skitimber on June 08, 2014, 02:32:05 AM
Maybe we should force pitchers to stay in the game for at least 7 innings until we see another .400 hitter!!  CC is a very good horse, and may even become a great horse, but he is not a triple crown winner.  Don\'t change the dates or the rules; the next TC winner will earn it.

And simply my opinion: horse racing is better off with this longer stretch between TC winners.  The next time a horse wins the first 2 legs, the 3 weeks between the Preakness and Belmont will generate far more buzz than they would have been had CC won yesterday, and it will go on like this until a horse finally puts an end to the drought.  Once that drought is over, the buzz will die, and so will the crowds and excitement.  Yesterday was more exciting BECAUSE it\'s been so long!

Agree everything written above.  I root against the Triple Crown every time because the buildup between the races is what gives racing a shot in the arm every year to keep it alive. A Triple Crown winner being retired at the end of his 3yo or 4yo campaign would do nothing for the sport and the dramatic buildup of the last three weeks will be squelched until there\'s another drought.

Couldn\'t agree more!  This sport is in a world of hurt and needs every positive story it can get.  Being from Chicago I\'m watching the sport die a slow death.  I never thought I\'d see the day when Arlington Park would be no better than Prairie Meadows or Penn National.  Stories like a potential triple crown winner bring folks out to our dying venues and that\'s a good thing!!!
