5 weeks, unlike the 1st (AND 2nd) place runners in the Preakness. Just a slight backward move in derby, with the past figs to support his fast ones, unlike say the big one off jump ups, who ALSO went backwards. Trainer at home. And by all accounts will be lost in betting at no better than 5th choice, if not worse.
And you don\'t even really have to jump on him now as in all likelihood Chrome goes off even less than what\'s he priced at currently. Can wait, monitor how he\'s doing, and get the 2nd most consistently fast horse in the race at perhaps 20:1 on the day.
Phil,
I used samraat in the derby on several tickets along with chrome. I thought he had a nice stalking trip against a very reasonable pace. When it came time to run however, he had no answer. I don\'t think he wants much beyond 1 1/8. If you are correct, you will need a very large briefcase to take home your cash! Good luck.
I believe Samraat was the only runner besides Chrome close to the pace that didn\'t fall apart in the KYD. Similar to Palace and Oxbow last year.
Sammy is an honest, hard trying sort. Dunno about 1 1/2 for him. But IMO I would much rather bet Sammy than Social Inclusion to hopefully catch a soft early pace and hang on at the end.
Saw on Twitter that SI\'s connections are now only 50-50 for the Belmont and are considering either the Met Mile or the Woody Stephens on the same day.
Hmmm...
Maybe because they too realize he is more of a miler.
So is Samraat.
Good Luck,
Joe B
I\'d take Sam over SI in a head to head if they both run but don\'t like either in the race.
I\'m hoping for Bay of Plenty\'s connections(Kiaran/Godolphin) to take a shot.At a minimum he would ensure an honest pace.
