He has a safety pin in his throat?
I used to hang out with Tom Meyerhoff, he swears the pin thing really happened to Bid.
As does Grover \" Bud\" Delp whom I spent a lot of time with and learned about a turf foot from at the old before the fire Arlington Park way back in the 80\'s.
Buddy used to order Spectacular Bid martini\'s Gin, Gin and Gin a Thoroughbred, I corrected him one time saying Buddy you missed one shouldn\'t you use a lil vermouth? He growled and always told the safety pin/ Ronny Franklin story.

Meyerhoff and a friend of his were the first ones to get me started on martinis, at Saratoga. Ten minutes after the last went official, like clockwork. Been my drink ever since.
Tom\'s dad was a piece of work. In that house were sometimes me, Tom, his friend Lewis Friedman, and David Cassidy (yeah, him). Occasional guests included the Zucker brothers (Airplane, Naked Gun etc.). All of us grew up in the 60\'s, not one of us smoked pot by the 80\'s. Meanwhile Tom\'s old man Harry would sit in a rocking chair on the porch, lighting one joint from the last one.
