Whereas there does seem to be an obscene amount of pace/pressers signed here, I can\'t help but note the history of this race, particularly recent history.....horses on the front end at the 3/8ths - 1/2 mile pole have fared particularly well recently.

2009 -Rachel Alexandra = Winner
2010 -First Dude = 2nd
2011 -Shackleford = Winner
2012 -Bodemeister = 2nd
2013 -Oxbow = Winner

Cruz certainly can win, and absolutely can spice up exotics, but I would need a pretty big price to pull the trigger....given that he is the local horse and all of the talk of the hot pace, I am not so certain the price will be big enough to take a horse that seemingly will have so much to do late just to grab a piece. May need to move a little earlier. We will see

I try to refrain from posting about pace on this board. Interesting thing about closers and projected fast paces. When they step up in class, one often scratches their head afterwards wondering how a horse like Kid Cruz was able to close 10 lengths against a :50 half mile going 1 1/16th, but was nowhere to be found at 1 3/16 despite a half in :46 and change.

Good Luck,
Joe B

Jbelfor:
Thank you for the education on the above post.
I did play Cruz underneath, however your words sat with me the whole time..
Sure enough you were spot on... A lesson learned.
