Title: Testing at CD?
Post by: bstaubs22 on April 15, 2014, 09:26:35 AM
Anyone know what the word is? Haven\'t seen anything yet and have to think this could be the strictest we have seen so far. TGJB?

Not sure but unless they are doing out of competition testing-- and doing it starting 2 weeks out-- it won\'t be complete.

Fyi, from Dr.Mary Scollay Head Of Kentucky Testing

Hi Mike,

Out of competition sampling is ongoing in multiple states and will continue up to the Derby.  Once again, I anticipate testing all starters at least once.

CD just issued a release:

http://www.kentuckyderby.com/sites/kentuckyderby.com/files/u64720/20140425%20Churchill%20Downs%20Releases%20Derby,%20Oaks%20Equine%20Security%20Protocols,%20Re-Emphasizes%20Ongoing%20Safety%20and%20Inte.pdf

On the 2nd page under MEDICATION, the 1st bullet point states they are doing out of competition blood testing for all horses in the Derby and Oaks AND for at least 50% of the horses in the undercard gr stakes. They state the time frame is both before & after entry. To JB\'s point though, I don\'t imagine we have anyway of knowing how long before entries they did the tests, and since many (most?) of the horse\'s were not even on the grounds 2 weeks prior, think we can assume much closer to entry date is when they were tested.

The undercard stuff, though, that does appear to be new. Not 100% of them, but does anyone recall them testing undercard horses at all before under the enhanced regimen?

I would imagine we\'re going to read more about this. But one thing I do know-- there is at least one form of EPO in use that only tests for about 48 hours, around 12-13 days out (it\'s given 2 weeks out). I\'m not the only one who knows this, so my guess is Mary Scollay, who runs the Kentucky program and means business, knows it too.

On the other hand, if they didn\'t do it already it\'s too late now...

It would be (a lot) better if they published the test results, but overall though, the program in the article is a good start.

How bout this tidbit!  LOL

All jockeys will be subjected to magnetic wand scans prior to the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks and other random
races.
