At 4/1 or above I will say \"Hi ho Silver\" to the Solitary Ranger.
Plenty 2YO class as winner of the Arlington Futurity (TG # 53
impressive for a Sept 2YO) and beaten fave in the Breeders Futurity at Kee. A
huge pace advantage \"on paper\". Won the prep with speed to spare.
Do not know if the owner is a Derby dreamer, but Solitary has never raced on
dirt, so this one might be aimed at this race and the Blue Grass while others
are looking ahead to May 3.
Good luck to those playing the contests today. Go get \'em Kemo Sabes.
Still a week left in March, but I think I have my first toss at any price
Derby runner.
Is there any doubt that owned by Ramsays/trained by TAP We Miss Artie is
Derby bound?
On dirt, WMA has a troubled 2nd in a 5f MSW at Belmont, 7th beaten 4 lengths
in the BC Juvie (TG 81) and 8th beaten 17 lengths in the FOY (TG
111).
Folks might point to Leroidsanimaux, who took the Derby with only one dirt
race on his resume, and say that my toss trigger finger is too itchy.
Leroidsanimaux put up a TG 32 in his Spiral win; We Miss Artie
apparently earned an 85 Beyer which historically would not make him relevant
with regards to past Derby preps.
Good job by KMart and Doc Billy on their contest work. I believe that the big
purse year end tourneys are a much more realistic manner of pursuing the
elusive life changing score, given the remote chance of bringing down a big P6
with a manageable investment. I tied for 282nd in the NTRA freebie, nothing
to be proud of, but probably my best out in three tries over the past few
years.
Surprised to see that so many T-generates follow wrestling. In 1985, when
stationed at Keystone, a friend dragged me to the Spectrum for wrestling
There wasn\'t an empty seat in the house, and we sat in front of a father with
his eight year old or so son, who spent the entire time trying to convince
his father that the spectacle was fake. Similarly, I heard numerous arguments
between Grover G \"Bud\" Delp and his twenty or so year old son Gerald
regarding the authenticity of wrestling matches; these arguments always ended
with father grabbing the phone off the desk and saying \"Here, call the
bookie, if he takes a bet on a wrestling match, then its real.\"
Hey Richie..I think you meant Animal Kingdom..
yup, mixed up the son and the daddy...
Richie,
U are tossing a horse that will be 50-1 in the exotics. (I say exotics because nobody seems to go off that high in the win pool in the derby anymore)
U have more work to do to come up with a derby strategy :)
I will tell u what, if midnight hawk goes to the derby I will take a matchup bet of we miss Artie over midnight hawk for a beer at Saratoga this summer.
Midnight hawk is a sucker horse if I ever saw one. Flattened out two back and lost to Chitu. Got a \"wide fig\" and got bet last race off it. qFlattened out again that race. Got another wide fig. Somehow went off the same price as Chitu yesterday and guess what, will get another wide fig.
If u look up \"can\'t get the distance\" a video of midnight hawks last three races will appear.
Not saying I like Chitu in may, but he was clearly better than midnight hawk before and after yesterday\'s race. Commissioner another slow horse that will get a \"bad trip\" excuse from yesterday\'s races.
We need to see something interesting in this last round of preps as the list of \"contenders\" is microscopic next to the list of \"pretenders\".
Good luck
Jim
Nice work by Martin Garcia using the left handed whip to get Chitu to drift over and hip check Midnight Hawk in the stretch.Head on shows the contact.
If Smith wasn\'t from the same barn maybe he takes a shot and claims foul?
Beyer comes back a 102 but I don\'t want either of them at ten furlongs regardless of how they score over here.
Isn\'t Artie the same Ramsey poly horse that runs up the track in the Derby every year at any price?
Jimbo-- The first time Artie and Hawk face each other on dirt I know a place where you can get that prop. At any distance.
Jim:
Would have been more interested to hear your impression of Tamarando\'s milk
carton-worthy performance at Turfway.
I think my point about WMA is that it is more the owner and trainer\'s need to be
Derby relevant than WMA\'s speed or ability that puts him in the Derby gate;
these unqualified types are for me easy tosses.
I think whatever mutuel pool you look at, WMA will be half the price he deserves
to be (by whatever measuring stick) because of the connections.
All I will take from Chitu\'s race is the fact that it flatters Candy Boy\'s perfect trip R. Lewis win.
Is We Miss Artie going straight to the Derby from here?
Runners in the Spiral never look impressive, but he did have some wide in there and moved best at the end.
Would like to see him in a dirt event before the Derby, but can\'t say he merits no chance.
