Title: question for TGJB
Post by: Michael D. on February 18, 2004, 01:00:16 PM
i know you don\'t do this often (so i don\'t ask much), but could you shed a bit of light on the figures you gave for aqu, nov 29th, races 7 and 8. were there any particular circumstances that day that affected the figures you gave out?

There was an awful lot of wind that day (same day Congaree won the NYRA mile), but the two turn races (like the seventh and eigth) were even and solid-- the variant for all three 1 1/8 races came up within a 1/4 point.

Why do you ask?

just a confusing one for me. all other figure makers have la reina backing up that day, while you have her pairing up. the last eighth went in an extremely slow :14.2  .... looked like the race completely collapsed. i would have guessed that la reina\'s 1m run on nov 4th would have been a faster race. but i was not at aqu either day, so really wasn\'t sure how the figures would come back. thanks for the reply.

While the wind won\'t affect the final time at 1 1/8th at Aqu (once around), it will certainly affect the fractions. In the stretch they were running into a strong 9 o\'clock wind (imagine the face of a clock as you are looking down on the track from above, meaning they were running directly into it).
I\'m guessing that other figure makers didn\'t split 1&2 turn races, which created a problem because of how fast Congaree ran.  The other 2 turn figure (the Remsen) has held up pretty well.
Michael, I have no problem with you asking these questions. In fact, I encourage it. Are you coming to Vegas for the Expo? Anybody else out there?

thanks..... my main concern is trying to figure out if la reina is more of a miler or a router. i had a huge bet on her when bailey nosed out JR in the 7th that day, wound up costing me a ton of money in exotics....... i was not there, so the explanation about the wind helps. makes RTF look pretty strong going long (:13 last eighth into a strong wind is not bad for a 2 yr old, even with the half going in :48)...... not sure about the expo. i would love to hear you and the rest of the panel speak, but we do a college hoops tourney vegas trip each year..
i\'m not sure i can handle that place twice in a month.

You know, just looking over the lineup for the Expo, it\'s amazing how few if any NEW names there are. These are the same folks who\'ve been around for 30+ years.

  What does that tell ya?
