Title: Probably an insane question but...Caulfield Cup?
Post by: phil23 on October 16, 2013, 04:50:31 PM
I don\'t suppose there\'s any chance of enough interest and getting figs for down under for their three big races - Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup? Can still try and look for overlays in the ante post odds based on average odds but having sheets would be an order of magnitude better. Interestingly they seem MASSIVELY aware of ground loss down there. Even more so than up here.

Indeed Phil, the ground loss issue very important, substantially more than here in the states and to a lesser degree Europe.  Check out an overhead of the Australian courses and you will find yourself in the middle of an algebra class; often with three or more sharp bends, especially for older runners.

With that written I would offer that there are two, more important handicapping factors than being wide, and the boys down under cogently quantify both. Weight and (come home time)!

In many Australian races the number one horse is not the rail horse; but the high weight.  The number two animal carries the second highest impost. Etc.

As for come home time it is posted in all charts usually the last 600 meters. Granted the pacesetter, often likes the sound of their rattling feet, and generally stops, but come home time is still the second largest handicapping factor of who wins on the lawn; after class.

While I hope you get the requested integers for the series inquiry, I would opine; you, or anyone, might try discounting the ground loss issue a bit.  On turf, on the hedge, and utilize the easily calculated data of weight and \"finish\" you\'ll cash more tickets!  bbb
