Only Richiebee can weave Leave it to Beaver, The Adams Family, The Manson Family and Municipal Golf into a racing and wagering discussion and have it make TOTAL SENSE.

Well done and congratulations on the piece!!!

NYRA would have no way to absorb a reduced takeout hit,if they petitioned for it with the FOB and NYS Gaming Commission. The numbers just dont add and NYRA would look foolish to even speak of reduced takeout now, barely struggling to reach break even as it is.

There is data to suggest that when takeouts are reduced, handle does go up for a time and then usually falls back.Racing days will probably be reduced at winter NYRA meets going forward which will result in less revenue for NYRA again.

The horse shortage for entry boxes across the country is expected to peak during 2014 and 2015, a result of the reduced foal crops of 2010,11,12(NY bred slow rats foaling up this year due to generous breeding program with monsterously inflated purses)A decrease in the entry box, along with possible reduced slot subsidies at certain venues, could spell the end for some,a boost for the game overall imo, especially NY.Racing needs contraction to survive and possibly spurt forward.

NYRA not getting a fair share of the pie for operations but Albany unlikely to change much until the matter of privatization is resolved in a couple of years.

Know that NYRA would like to throw the players a bone but dont have the money.Horsemen scream bloody murder at reducing purses to address any player issues.Rick Violette recently said players should go home early if they dont like the quality or excessive number of races being run at SPA....f-king idiot doesn\'t know the disgust of most regulars with those disconnected from player issues.Yet, he has a seat at the table!

Violette also said he didn\'t like the \"tone\" of the JC Round Table. Agree about the seat.

In the spirit of the board, telling it like it is,Violette is no friend of the player.Thinks that keeping us in the dark and pouring horse manure on our heads is the way to go.

Paulick Report:

September 24, 2013

Owner-trainer Reid Nagle, who built a successful financial information business before turning to Thoroughbred racing a few years ago, stirred the hornet's nest last week with an open letter to Stella Thayer and Peter Berube, owner and general manager of Tampa Bay Downs. Nagle said he moved his racing stable to Gulfstream Park because he feels Tampa Bay Downs management failed to act accordingly against trainer Jane Cibelli, when her veterinarian was caught giving a horse in her barn an illegal injection hours before it was to race.

"I encourage others – bettors, trainers and owners – to make the switch as well," Nagle wrote. "There should be no room in this sport for cheating, and especially for cheaters who are caught and given a free get-out-of-jail card. Without effective regulation and oversight, the only way to get this message across is for bettors and horsemen who want an honest sport to vote with their feet, hooves and dollars."

Nagle's letter to Thayer and Berube comes on the heels of a survey of horseplayers presented at this year's Jockey Club Round Table, listing drugs and integrity as the two most important issues horse racing faces.

Should horseplayers move their wagering dollars somewhere else if they feel as though not enough is being done at a specific track or racing circuit to stop cheating and protect the game's integrity?
