There is a portion of an article on Paulick Report where a search of the vet\'s car turns up a gallon jug of a type of clenbuterol not approved by the FDA. Now how often can we speculate this happens across the country? Perhaps more security is needed at all tracks!

Also from Paulick article:

Cibelli advised the veterinarian to use Sarapin, the report states, quoting Paraliticci as saying "that this block is a substance that doesn't show on blood tests."

Does the first line of this article still apply?

I\'ve always loved the stories about trainers that get up earlier than everyone else and know their horses better than everyone else.

It\'s the out-of-the-box approach.....

coincidental that her strike rate tanked dramatically at Monmouth??

Trainer Jane Cibelli

Florida officials announced this week that their investigation into a race-day injection at Tampa Bay Downs resulted in a 60-day suspension for trainer Jane Cibelli.  The veterinarian who was caught injecting the horse, Dr. Orlando Paraliticci, received a 90-day suspension in May.
Tampa Bay Downs also took action against both Cibelli and Paraliticci, revoking Cibelli's stall space for the remainder of the 2013/2014 race meet and banning Paraliticci from practicing veterinary medicine for the rest of the meet.
The suspensions brought to a close a case that began in January with the injection of Cibelli's trainee, Raven Train.  In addition to scrutiny of both the trainer and veterinarian, the case prompted criticism of Tampa Bay Downs GM Peter Berube and of Florida's regulatory system.  The following is an open letter from Jane Cibelli that was sent to the Paulick Report regarding the situation.

For the last several months, I have been accused, found guilty and burned at the stake. Meanwhile, I have not been able to tell my side of the story. I have not had a hearing and my lawyer advised me to stay quiet. In light of the legs this story has grown and the public sentiment against me, that was probably a mistake.
On the morning of January 27 I checked all my horses' legs as usual. Raven Train had had an ongoing issue with a splint and was entered to race that day and I felt on palpation it was still sore.

Earlier that week, I had been in Miami and had a conversation with Dr. Orlando Paraliticci and told him if he thought it necessary to go ahead and inject the splint — not with a block but with an anti-inflammatory, several days before the race. All perfectly legal.

On the morning of the race, I told Orlando the splint was still sore and he should look at it to decide if a scratch was in order or if Raven Train was good to race. Whether he forgot to address it days earlier and thought I would be angry (which I would have) and decided to play catch-up, or whether he misunderstood me, I have no idea.

After that my life changed. You all know the rest of the story. I know my detractors are going to say I'm lying. A lot of people don't want to believe that anyone can be successful in this business without cheating.

For those who don't know me, I admit I can be abrasive and have a hot temper. I believe if I am paying you to do a job, you should do it correctly and to the best of your ability — just like I try to do the best job I can. I am not a social person by nature and do not have an outgoing personality, but what you can never say about me is that I don't care about horses.

I would never do anything to harm a horse. Look at my charges — they look good, are well-fed, fit and sound. They get weighed every week, and their blood is pulled regularly. Yes, my vet bills are high and we spare no expense on X-rays, scoping, ultrasounds, and if necessary, injections — but only with products that will help the horse, not destroy it. Any owner who has been with me can tell you I won't run a bad horse. Horses get claimed from me, and some do well while others, not so well — just like any other trainer.

Let's think about this for a minute. My career is going well, I have 50 horses in training, my phone is ringing, I have a promising 3-year-old stakes winner and a potential stakes filly. I have a barnful of young horses, I have great owners and I'm buying babies at the sales, which is what I have always aspired to do. I am living the dream.

Now, I have a horse running who has not won a race in two years and belongs to an owner I have never trained for before. This was a horse that needed the type of races you get at Tampa Bay Downs. I don't bet, by the way, so what could I possibly have to gain from doing something illegal and risking my life and career? None of this makes any sense.

I think I have been punished enough, both in public sentiment and from the state. I've been punished because the state took eight months to resolve this. Why? I didn't appeal anything — why didn't Tampa Bay Downs deal with this as soon as it happened? You would have to ask Peter Berube that.

I only ask, don't judge me until you see my horses and spend a morning at the rail and can tell me in all honesty that I am a bad horsewoman. I have owners who have been with me for years and have supported me and I thank them. No owner has left. Acquiring new owners may be difficult for a while, but it won't change the way I do business and how I care for my horses.

She didnt seem to address the large \"drop off\" at Monmouth. Also, she mentions her vet bills are high....if you were an owner, would you give a horse to her knowing she\'s an oats and hay trainer? If you\'re going for the oats and hay route, why would anyone give a horse to a person who\'s vet bills are thru the roof?

She admits she\'s: abrasive, has a bad temper, not very social and not very outgoing....but, other than that, she\'s a quality person?

I have to admit that i didnt get choked up and shed a tear reading her statement. The tears just werent flowing from me. Sorry Jane.

When one consistently engages in  behaviour which alienates others, only an immature mind would be surprised by the ensuing rejection.

Apparently Ms. Cibelli is most concerned about business backlash. Then horses. Then........???  We Live, We Learn!
