Title: Dumbest Question in Racing
Post by: Silver Charm on July 07, 2013, 07:25:16 AM
So you have just won a Major $200K+ maybe even $500K Graded race. The horse hasnt even made it back to the barn to cool and bathe and someone with a microphone says ]\"where do you go next\". STOP IT.

What if someone told you the truth. The Track Bar! Mortons! Scores! WTF!!!!

A great answer was one I heard yesterday was \"The horse, I have no idea\" \"Me? I have won this race 5-times now and will enjoy and then will be at Gulfstream tomorrow.\"

Its all stupid. People spend a week a month a season pointing for a spot and as soon as they win somebody wont let them enojy but wants to instead talk about whats next.....STOP IT!!!!!!

The \"Where do you go next?\" question should be the only question these guys are asked. All the other questions are BS. And if they don\'t want to answer, great. Just end the interview right there. In horse racing, the only thing better than a short interview is no interview at all. Everybody will be smarter for not hearing any of this nonsense.

A few years back some idiot on ESPN asked Harry Aleo how owning Lost in the Fog compared to being in the Battle of the Bulge.  I thought Aleo was going to toss him over the rail.

Remember it well. To paraphrase\"....what does that have to do with the Battle of the gawd damn Bulge\". Or something like that. It was classic.

That young reporter-- if he still even is one-- will have nightmares about that for years.

In case anyone is curious, Quint Kessenich was the reporter who asked that question. He was a former professional lacrosse player and still works as an announcer for ESPN and writes for its website, covering lacrosse. Not sure if that\'s a bigger niche sport than horse racing these days or not...
