While the board is quiet and in the lull before the storm caused by your interview and picture in headline

Sunday June 16th Monmouth Park race #6 a finish that will live in infamy.

One of our favorite contributors (Jim Covello) has had defeat (and $12 grand) grabbed from the jaws of victory.

Congratulations to a clever trainer (Derek Ryan) whose decision to run for $30K and get two lbs. provided the one head margin of victory. Not like there was a line to claim the beast @ any price! Honorable mention to John Terranova.

Shame on Jim\'s jockey (G. Saez) for apparently (along with Byron King) not appreciating  the importance of ground loss.

Congrats to the insiders and mystics who beat the winners price down to only 24/1. Condolences to those who knew they had a good thing with Coach Royal and spread.

So for those in the know, a) clm16000@Tam is a tougher group than clm40000Mth? b) the winner just needed time to develop? c) winner has competitive #\'s a couple of years/generations back and has recovered? d) the pace was too fast and race fell apart? e) call a cop the horse jumped way up?

Hah,

good post!

My best thought is that it was a very medicore group of horses and someone had to win.

Coach Royal is a tough horse to ride.  I told Saez before the race to be careful because he will drag you to the lead all by himself and act as if he\'s going to draw off (and lose ground in the process) and then the minute he makes the lead, he puts the brakes on.  He\'s done this in everyone one of his starts.  Only race he won for us was when he didn\'t make the lead until the final stride.

Saez came back shaking his head.

Good news is the horse always runs his race and always picks up a check.

sidenote:  I\'m interested to see what Jacobson does with Screenplay today.  TG\'s would suggest he\'s a bad favorite but who knows what the good Dr. has in store there.

double sidenote, I have never rooted more for the ROTW to be right in my life.  One time with this race of the week prediction!

I wondered about Screenplay, too.  Looked like he would have won that going away but no hole in deep stretch.
All the best to you tomorrow.

Good luck Jim but I don\'t think you need it here..Fastest horse and good race setup usually equals win..Air support looks like he will be wider than Swift around the track so that should be even more of an advantage..I think it\'s time to take the rubber band off the bankroll here..

OMG, good thing your Yanks are not playing my O\'s! I\'d have to root against you.

Guys, don\'t get me wrong, I love baseball. I was a kid when the Robinson brothers played together in Baltimore. My first game was the one where Frank R. hit the first (and only I believe) ball out of the old Memorial Stadium. And I mean out of the park!. That ball sailed up over and right past the top corner of the left field bleachers. I can still see that white dot sailing across the sky. It was a double-header against the Cleveland Indians. My O\'s won both games. What a great day, What a great memory.

Baseball and horseracing have a lot in common. they are both, under the surface, very complicated sports. They are a thinker\'s game just as much as they are a sport of physical talent and skill. But apples are apples and oranges are oranges. And one worm doesn\'t ruin the bushel - as long as it doesn\'t reproduce successfully. (I had to say that, forgive me.)

But back to the topic at hand, looks like a great day of racing in Virginia. I had a local trainer tell me the turf course at Colonial is the best in the land. It looks like a two horse race. Either one is worthy. Victory is always sweet, but some are sweeter and those more than make up for the tough beats.

I am rooting for you JC. And I\'ll even root for your Yankees today. You are making some great memories with your kids. That\'s really important. And I know you know that.

Me today? Well, life is a constant flux of choices and consequences. I am off to a friend\'s to ride horses through the fields around here, so I will miss the races today. May be back in time to see your Warrior run. May he prove the Swiftest!

There ought to be a charity auction where one of the prizes is a
month as JC\'s son. This young fella has been to Derbies, Breeder\'s
Cups, has had sneakers on the ground at more racetracks than 80%
of the folks on this board, who knows how many baseball stadiums...

Good luck Jim

Yeah, but pretty sure I have the kid beat on strip clubs.

On a 5/2 shot??

I hope Jim\'s horse airs, but I don\'t get why some people around here love horses that pay single digits. It takes a lot of winners to turn a profit with these.

Was hoping for 7/2 but there\'s still time.  I tend to let loose only when I really feel good about a horse that is the best horse TG Wise and who is probably going to get the trip he needs and is going off at over 3/1..I have no problems betting a 3/1 shot if I feel like he is winning

I passed the race LC.

I guess that explains why the jock rode him, as JB mentioned in the analysis.

Like I said, even if they look really good, they still get beat.  Everybody has their own odds thresh hold, for me double digit mutuel is an absolute minimum.
