Title: Gunfighter
Post by: covelj70 on May 17, 2013, 04:48:27 AM
I need some help from the board.

I spent some time on the Pim Special last night and I wound up thinking Gunfighter can\'t lose as he has the best numbers even adjusted for the weight, right style for the way the race shapes up and the right jock

If this is the case, I can\'t play the race or the Speical/Preakness double since that\'s so chalky so someone please make a good case for another horse that I can consider.

thanks

I mentioned in another post that Brimstone Island is very interesting here to me.  I know ppl expect him to be pace compromised by 82fast2, but to me there are still several things to like about the horse, starting with inside speed trip and weight from 82fast2 and gunfighter.  Right off the bat, that makes his tops look much closer to negatives than than they do on paper.

Also, the overall pattern is very promising, with some nice improvement early here in his 4yr old year that he has been able to sustain.  I also think the pedigree is fine for the extra distance with Broad Brush underneath and plenty of good route number power in his immediate family shown on the graph.

Not convinced he will win, but will definitely be on my pk4 ticket and think he has a real good shot at the tri or exacta.

Jim,

Exactly what I thought. A 4yo with enough spacing so he should run something close to his last 2 which is good enough and even a point or maybe 2 back could win. Brimstone running decent figures but at a shorter distance so I don\'t expect any improvement from him and Eightsofast has a chance but at 7 yo he should have some effect from the 2 negative numbers as he has in the past. Even money seems to be worth a bet as I think he would win more than half the time against this field.

Jim, I had the same initial thoughts. I thought the Special and the Preakness were unbettable given that I have no strong opinion on who will run behind Orb. In the end I decided that if I can turn a 4-5 Gunfighter and a 1-2 Orb into an $8-$10  double that was value enough to give me a rooting interest....Ken

The best trade is no trade. The risk isn\'t worth the reward.

No help here either Jim..I couldn\'t get past that one too, just seems like Castellano is just going to sit outside and see what the 3&4 decide to do and then pounce..Richards kid has seen better days..for me the only chance to make anything is to play Departing and IMLD in the double and hope Rosario gets pinned in..

Horses look tough Jim and the double is horrific.

Gunfighter to Orb is $6 (for $2)

Ugh.

With early money in, the distant second choices are Itsmyluckyday and Willtakecharge
