it is very interesting......making me think a lot. One question....is there a way to break up the paired up tops into two groups.....those for which the pair is the first reaction/resistance point versus those who have an earlier reaction/resistance point?
What I am thinking is that if a horse has never reacted, really, the horse is still learning and just finding itself....a pair up in that context would in my view be consistent with what the study is showing. However, if the 3yo had a clear two year old reaction/resistance point, and then the pair up represents coming back down....in that context...I would less kindly view the pair up. It is possible the study would show a big difference between these two groups of horses. However, I do not know what to make of that difference in the context of Orb (for whom a case could be made he belongs in both groups).
Of course, Fusaichi Pegasus was in the group that I would not have expected to bounce (and he did).
FuPeg did not bounce, ever - lifetime pattern.

Thank you for keeping me honest. Also, the evidence you present may well support my larger point (that the pair ups can be different in nature depending on whether they are a first reaction/resistance point or they represent a newly established level).
