Outstanding job by NBC Sports network and NBC on Derby Day, which to me means
that they showed all undercard races which were run during their coverage.
Laffit Pincay, Jr excellent, Jerry Bailey still not as good as Gary Stevens or
Mike Smith in the retired/jock analyst role. Bailey has no more knowledge than
the other two, and comes off nowhere near as likeable.
Re Bailey, I was wondering if he would point out that (besides Rosario) he was the only other jock with the World Cup / Derby double in the same year. Like a good jock, Bailey had his cake (noting that the double was a great accomplishment) but chose not to eat it (he did not mention his scores).
Otherwise, enough with the hats! Maybe next year they could have a big feature on Derby foundation garments. They could get Victoria\'s Secret to sponsor it.
I agree that the NBC coverage was very good. What was not good was the coverage by my local off track facility. I bet the derby every year from a casino in Green Bay. This year I went to bet the oaks-derby double the night before and I never saw the derby odds nor did I see any oaks derby double pays. Even right before the race!
Then on Derby day I never saw the odds posted until after the 10th race was run. What is going on? Any explanations? The only early odds or payouts I got for the race was courtesy of the internet.
