Title: Love For Pure Fun, Question For TGJB
Post by: ColonelShillito on May 01, 2013, 10:20:01 AM
Mr. Brown, thoroughly enjoyed your write-up and quite frankly you helped clear things up for me immensely concerning the Kentucky Oaks.  Look forward to your opinion on the Derby.

I\'d like to pose a thought concerning Pure Fun. This filly paired up her 2yo top in her last effort, which was her 2nd start of the year. From following this board, I understand that when this happens, it is a very healthy sign.

Is Pure Fun in line for maybe a 2-3 point jump? I\'m thinking this considering the following factors:

1) First Lasix
2) Three synthetic races in a row to dirt. Synth-to-dirt explosion.
3) Hot pace setting up for her late kick.

I\'m conceding the race to either Dreaming of Julia or Midnight Lucky. My plan is perhaps an underneath key of Pure Fun to hit the board at 20-1 or so.  I think a 2-3 pt jump puts her in a photo for the minor awards, which would be perfect for me.

Any thoughts?

I\'ll let others handle this, since I\'m giving ny opinions in the seminar, and in the data you paid for.

Flashy Gray just came out of the race.

The weather makes expecting a certain track surface a tricky prospect here.  The front that is dumping a foot of snow on Denver today is supposedly going to stall out to such an extent that it wont even move thru KY until after the Oaks.

As long as the track is still dry and rain has not moved in yet on Friday, I think it is a safe bet that it will be tiring, as it was last Sat.  Yesterday/Today have been a bit mixed, I think it is safe to call it \"fair\".  If there is a slight bias toward closer, I agree with all the points you made and think this horse has a real shot to get into the tri under those conditions.

The move back to 2yr old top range, while racing on a surface she really doesn\'t prefer, is a huge plus in my eyes.  Throw in the first lasix and a nice new top is definitely possible.  But it will need to be a pretty big one to compete with these.
