Title: WORLD HANDICAPPING TOUR
Post by: OPM on December 17, 2003, 09:44:13 PM
How many people would be interested in participating in a handicapping tour ala the World Poker Tour?  Next how much would you be willing to put up to join such a tour?  Would TG be willing to sponsor such a tour?  My initial thoughts is to get 10,000 that pay $1000 to the tour. We would have monthly tournaments that would offer $@800,000 in prizes. Tournaments would be all over the country.  DMR, SAR, BEL, GP, SA, HOL, LS, AP etc.  Each tournament would be a different format such as most # of winners, highest wp, highest bankroll regardless of wager type, etc.  I know I have too much time on my hands but I just want to know interest.

In the last few weeks I have heard several versions of ongoing tournaments floated, some involving TV. Something will break in this regard over the next couple of years.

I doubt very much if it will take that long. Many mos ago I pitched the idea to NTRA Marketing & I am told that a variation of what I proposed, which was based on the contests which already take place, is under serious consideration. The keys, imho, will be good & aggressive editing, a host as knowledgeable about all of the different types of handicapping as Mike Sexton is about hold em poker, & a format which will produce the David(avg Joe) vs Goliath(pro) match ups which make the WPT interesting to a large audience. The popularity of the WPT has everyone jumping on the bandwagon, & there is a reasonable chance that there will be a gambling channel next yr. I think racing could do as well or better than the WPT, & find it impossible to believe that it could ever be as bad, or as boring, as the recently televised $1 million blackjack tourney.
