Why Balmy? Odds, pattern, combination of both?
Thank You
Cozzene
Alan may be in later, I\'ll let him handle this one.
Combination. Briefly,
1. Bruanna--5yo, hurt by the big top 4 starts ago. 7s since. Fast top. Negative read.
2. Shawklit Mint --4yo, wrote glowingly about her line prior to the CRC start 4 races back. She bounced that day and still hasn\'t reclaimed her old form. Her last should have been better. Fast top. Negative read.
3. Cozzy Corner--5yo, slow.
4. Balmy--4yo, good development last winter before tailing off. 2nd off the layoff for trainer getting a lot of tops lately. 4yo, likely to run. Positive read.
5. Gazillion--4yo, got real good at this time last year. Two good recent efforts. Figured to run even better 3rd off the layoff. Fast top. Positive read.
6. Wilzada--4yo, fast, but not the horse she was before the layoff. Shouldn\'t have bounced last time. Fast top. Negative read.
7. Travelator--3yo, almost sure to bounce after extended campaign culminated by break through last time. Fast top. Negative read.
8. Bonefide Reason--5yo, workmanlike. Fast enough on best but cold trainer. Negative read.
9. Literary Light--4yo, off a top, outside, could pair at best. Bounce more likely. Fast top. Somewhat negative read.
Of the two positive reads, one was 20-1 and the other 3-1 in the morning line, but seven to eight of the nine were fast enough to win.
TGAB---
Terrific call. Speed favoring inner oval did not hurt.
A buddy of mine had this horse real good. His theory surrounds stakes type filly and mare races where he strictly keys any speed at double digit odds or better. He says that speed dominates these type of races more than with the boys.
Tough to argue with him right now.....he also had ADORATION in the BC distaff.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
A caller requested that we post the sheets for the Balmy race. Here\'s the race.
Joe B.--Thanks.
