I\'d like to see what opinions folks have, there could be 4 runners from this race in the Derby field if Golden Soul makes it to the gate. It appears that this was one of the better prep races of the season and I feel like Palace Malice was the best horse and without running into the wall of horses, would have beaten a horse that is on top of many people\'s lists, Revolutionary. Additionally we have Mylute who seems to be gaining popularity after a good work at CD.
My dilemma comes with what to think of Palace Malice now. He was the best at FG, but has since had to run another race whereas the other 2 have been able to train up to the Derby. Does the extra race (a very so-so performance on poly) leave him now behind Revolutionary? Behind Mylute?
Lets see what Sunbean does in the Lexington to see if that flatters the race but Palace Malice ran okay. The La Derby could be a key race for sure. I think Sunbean is going to be very tough because he might be a poly move up and he is first Mike Maker as the owner took him away from Al Stall, Jr. for some reason. He was fast going into the La Derby so he should fit right into the mix in the Lex.

Michael:
I know there are many reasons why an owner might move a horse from one barn to
another, but is there a possibility in this case that the owners think that this
colt is Derby material but trainer Stall doesn\'t?
I don\'t think that was the reason. I\'m perplexed by this. Al trained - to near perfection - Star Guitar for the same connections. He thought very highly of Sunbean and in fact, was considering entering him in the Blue Grass before the owner took the horse from him so I know Al held the horse in high regard. The owner is a bit eccentric so there might lie the reason - just normal for an owner to begin to believe he/she knows better. I feel bad for Al because i think the horse is Super Live in the Lexington and would have monied in the La Derby.

I\'m equally surprised that sunbean has been taken from Al Stall. He and the owner have been together for many many years and have enjoyed great success together.
I\'ve watched the La derby replay a number of times and believe that sunbean was a winner with a good trip. If I were Evelyn Benoit I\'d fire the jockey not the trainer.
Curious to know why you think Sunbean is a jump up on the Poly. the entire family as I recall has run and had success on dirt only.
Al Stall recently got days for 2 BS positives(class 3\'s)Possible reason owner made the change?
Before the LA Derby, Stall was interviewed by Capital OTB and talked about his 2 geldings in the LA Derby. DRF & TG had them both listed as colts. DRF now has corrected Departing but is still listing Sunbean as a colt. He\'s probably been a gelding his whole racing career.
Since he\'s been racing as a gelding, his form is what it is & when it\'s corrected he won\'t be a 1st time gelding.
That said, I think he\'s got a good shot along with Cerro & Pick of the Litter because it looks like any recent Orb race is a key race, which is why I like Orb in the Derby.

Rumor has it that she was pissed that Al put Colby Hernandez on the horse in the la derby. Story is that she called Ron Fauchaux and told him to pick up the horse from al. ron did and then two days later Maker picks the horse up from Ron.
Sorry Allan.
Nice mouth.
