Title: Who will Johnny V ride?
Post by: covelj70 on March 31, 2013, 11:59:30 AM
Does anyone have a strong opinion on who JV will ride in the Derby if Verazzano wins the Wood convincingly?

Someone gonna get a hell of a pickup mount on Orb if he picks Verazzano.

Either way, he will likely wait as long as possible in the case of an injury.

Jim

I have zero inside information but can\'t believe he won\'t ride Verrazano.  Pletcher and the top figure horse.

interesting decision for shug.  Who will he turn to?

JV said in post race TV interview with Shug standing next to him that he hoped to have some time to decide after the Wood.

I would imagine that Shug\'s phone was ringing off the hook 10 minutes later from every top jocks agent!

What about a Shug, Phipps, Mike Smith reunion?
That combo won a lot of races together back in the day before Mr. Smith acquired a prefix to Mike.

Stranger things have happened at the race track!

I think Calvin is free, no?  I think when he was out with injury, he kind of missed the opps.

If Vyjack bombs, maybe Rosario rides Orb

For what it\'s worth, I don\'t think it\'s a foregone conclusion that he takes Verazzano.

He was very upset with the decision by pletcher when he got taken off violence after violence\'s first win at the spa.

If he thinks Verazzano is sound and is the best horse, he will ride him but I don\'t think that he will automatically ride pletcher after what happened with violence.

Remember, Johnny\'s only derby came on graham motion\'s horse.

If Johnny think orb gives him a better shot, that\'s who he will ride.

Remember his agent Angel is one of the sharpest minds in the business in evaluating talent - they make very few mistakes.

High,

I hate to burst your bubble as Angel was one of my favorite jocks ever and one of the top 5 of all time without question.

BUT: Jockey\'s are notoriously the worst handicappers in the world and many top guy\'s who made a ton ended up flat ass broke. Baeza, Ycazza, Shoemaker and Angel who made a mil plus his last 10 years was on his rear end when he retired. In the old days bookmakers would fight over who got a jocks action.

IMHO Johnny V is a good jock nowhere near any list of all time greats. Angel made a great business decision connecting with TAP as he and Johnny were having success at the same time early in there careers. JV has made a handsome living on Pletcher Cadillacs taking the sceneic 5 path around the group or regally bred firsters who blast off and never get tired.

I\'ll let the triple crown and breeders cup resume of the jockey speak for itself as well as the said trainer being an all time great.

Good luck,

Frank D.

Missing the holiday cheer?

Will agree with u that Johnny v is a bit over rated.  Think the younger version of him was better. (Probably could say that about a lot of us)

Hard to say who the best jockey is but we all have our views. Gomez on closers. Rosario on speed.   Frenchie, as much as I hate him, is tough on turf.   But, to me the \"total package\" is Ramon.   He does it all.  Is aggressive on front runners.  Saves ground. Rides the turf well.  I know he hasn\'t had the success in the big races yet, but kind of feel that a lot of that is due to the fact he stays in New York. Not his talent

Hope he fully recovers

Jim
