Title: Wednesday
Post by: FrankD. on August 15, 2012, 04:51:44 AM
Fast & firm for now
A bit of overnight rain with quite a bit more coming today; with 6 on the grass we will lose more than a couple later in the day.

Inner  @ 18 feet
Mellon @ 27 feet

6 turf races today so a very iffy card that makes me do the unthinkable.
I will be wagering on plastic as the carryovers in the pick 5 & 6 @ Delmar are a bit too juicy to resist.

Saturday and Sunday look like nice days BUT a bit of rain on Friday and Friday night will play havoc with Saturdays turf races.

The Cali cards are no better than PJ\'s, a sign of the times I guess; 5 and 6 yr old maidens?

Good luck,

Frank D.

Good luck on the synpathetic.

Any combination of bad racing/bad weather and I will do the unthinkable: Scratch from Saratoga and head down to the Shore for the crab cake festival at MTH on Saturday. But I am remembering on Jim Dandy weekend the forecast was for rain Sat/Sun which never came.

You must have hung out with Miff and know your lightening up on your goombah PJ. With the purse money Campo had to work with, his only excuse for the sorry racing this summer is his own apathy.

The prices have been tremendous all meet at Del Mar.

Those dismissing that track based on the surface or locale are really missing out.

Frank D,

Your weather forecast for Wednesday was as bad as my handicapping!

P-Dub,

Nobody would argue about the beauty of Delmar.  As for the surface....  There is often a correlation between \"prices\" and ridiculous results.  Those \"prices\" on Sunday were nice.  50k for a pick-3?  But you had to be playing birthdays to hit it.  There are lottery tickets for sale every day in many states.  But if it is working for you at Delmar, so be it.

Jimbo,

Crazy results help make up 50k P3s. No question. However, some of those winners - not all, are certainly not picked based on birthdays or whatever.

If you are basing results based strictly on TG data, since this is a TG board, then perhaps you are correct. I\'ve had winners where people here told me \"you couldn\'t have had that based on TG\". I don\'t use TG on a regular basis, usually I use them for big events (BC, Derby, etc.)

I had that 87.60 horse in the 5th, and several others during the meet. It wasn\'t based on birthdays or lottery tickets, or luck.  I\'ve hit winners where the TVG guys said...\"you had to hit the all button to get that one\".

I have great respect for TG, but it isn\'t the end all of handicapping. To dismiss a result as luck or ridiculous, because the TG numbers don\'t stack up, is short sided.

There are other ways to handicap, such as pace which many here dismiss. I don\'t know what that horse looked like on your figures, but on mine he was a ridiculous overlay based on his pace numbers both internal and total.

I wouldn\'t have hit that P3 in a million years, but some of the big prices aren\'t impossible. More than one way to do things.

Jimbo,

I\'m taking down my meteorologist shingle and blaming global warming, Al Gore and the Internet.

I spent yesterday(my best day of the meet) ignoring harassing texts from richiebee about my forecast and am in the process of filing a restraining order against him. He\'s no longer be allowed to sleep within 500 feet of me.

Every model on Wednesday called for heavy rain all afternoon; it rained for about 20 minutes lightly before and after the 2nd race. Yesterday there was not a chance of rain and we had a 20 minute monsoon before the West Point.

The highlight of the day was a kid about 9 or 10 on the track apron all alone during the heavy rain running up and down from section to section doing push ups and jumping jacks in the down pour. He would rouse each section to count out his push ups out loud. The kid of the year IMHO no video idiot here as this kid did well over 100 push ups and entertained the grandstand in between races.

Hilarious! Great way to start a weekend of intense handicrapping.

Frank,

Good to hear you had a good day!

As for that kid doing the pushups. You should have walked over and introduced yourself.  That was MIFF from the board.  he only SOUNDS old and grouchy, he is actually a young kid....
