Title: Ill have another
Post by: touchgold on July 10, 2012, 09:13:59 AM
I'll Have Another was sold to Japanese interests for $10 million, owner J. Paul Reddam wrote today on the \"Hangin\' with Haskin\" blog on bloodhorse.com.

Good for American racing.

A fragile lightly raced horse (kaput 6 months into his 3YO season) kept out of
the US stallion ranks, and maybe Reddam puts the net proceeds back into horses
that will race in America.

Lots of conversation about the influence of drugs in racing. There was a well
publicized spate of catastrophic breakdowns this winter in NY. If we tightened
up the stud book and bred more efficiently, maybe we would have fewer runners
which are short of wind and frail of limb.

Could go on forever about this, as is known to all, but I am stricken by the
distraction of an impending sip of sulphur laced spring water.

Look at the races carded for the Diana/Jim Dandy weekend and you\'ll be adding scotch to your sulphur spring water.

FranK:

Scotch and spring water? I\'ll try anything once.

I called more loudly and more frequently than almost anyone for Sir Charles to
be pensioned. When he was, it was over a bookeeping error which he unwisely
sat on for one year. Whenever Charles\' demise is discussed, we hear about
takeoutgate. The truth is that NY Racing became a joke, a punch line, a
laughingstock under Charles\' watch.

Yet his right hand man, PJ Campo, still directs day to day racing operations
in NY. How is this so? Popular with horsemen?  Thats a good thing?

When there used to be some imagination possessed by the braintrust at NYRA,
the powers that be recognized that upstate and downstate racing are two
different beasts, and appointed a racing secretary from another circuit
(Battle from Churchill?) to run racing at the Spa.

Enough with these negative waves Frank. If the racing is as bad as you say,
I\'ll challenge you to a handicapping contest involving 3 races from each of
the synpathetic tracks -- Arlington, Woodbine and Del Mar -- and finish it off
with a 5K trot at Saratoga Raceway.
