Title: Royal Ascot Races
Post by: Silver Charm on June 25, 2012, 05:50:33 PM
I have seen a couple of \"stretch runs\" of races there recently. There were packs of horses on both sides of the course, or outer rails! What is up with that?

Are horses breaking from a spread gate and then heading to the better part of the course? A horse could be leading his pack but be getting beaten by more than one on the other side of the course. And judging a head bob finish from 20 yds away?

Forget about it.....

Jocks and trainers routinely walk the track before the day of races on turf to try and find the best path.  Good jocks put their horses on the best part of the track.  Sometimes it\'s right up the middle, sometimes they all come to the outside, sometimes all to the inside, sometimes they split.  Most of the time it\'s inside or up the middle.
