Title: Was Bode's Derby Fig An "Effort"
Post by: gteasy on May 15, 2012, 12:02:13 AM
With Bodemeister running a negative fig prior to the Derby, do you see his \'3\' on a hot pace as an effort or not?...seems to me that he was all out and staggered to the line, judging by the fractions...isn\'t it unlikely that he has enough recovery time going into the Preakness?

I picked out a few relevant Preakness patterns...Shackleford last year, Lookin At Lucky(2010), Musket Man(2009), and Afleet Alex(2005)...these horses ran peaks prior to the Derby, then backed off their tops at Churchill...at Pimlico, Shackleford, Lookin At Lucky, and Afleet Alex ran new tops...Musket Man did not.

Bode\'s top was much closer to Derby day than the other four...there are other differences worth noting.

like many of you I prefer the Preakness pattens on Creative Cause and I\'ll Have Another...I would not toss Liaison.

The Derby figs suggest this was not an exceptional field...perhaps JB\'s numbers will point toward a new face.

I think by definition (2+ points off top) it isn\'t but it\'s hard to fathom that it wasn\'t. I posed the same question earlier and it was not received well. Will be interesting to hear what the boss thinks.

Hey it was an effort for at least a mile and an eighth, no?
