Title: Florida Derby
Post by: shanahan on March 24, 2012, 04:25:52 PM
well, definitely had my ass kicked today playing TP.  The tiny - and I mean tiny - pik 4 at GP did not ease the pain.  Topping it off was Our Black Knight flying home to lose at OAK (zito sending horses to Moquett is usually an easy play, but OBK is a router, so maybe I was overthinking it).

So, off to Hallandale Wednesday night for 5 days.  Any else going that way?  Looks to be a big card with 7 stks. I must admit it\'s now my fav track with the village completed.  No need for a car, lots of good restaurants and bars, hotel across the street....what\'s not to like?

I will be there on Saturday. Tends to be a chalky day as TP dominates but you see some great horses and I agree with you about the track. I am always stunned that people don\'t rave about it. I\'m a big Irish guy with a set of thorograph just in case you see me. good luck

I\'ll be at the track Friday afternoon...but I haven\'t been to gulfstream since the overhaul so I\'m not sure where I\'ll be. You can email me at michael9242@msn.com if you want...Michael

Last I checked, all puchaseable seats were sold out.  Even the seats at the upstairs bar were gone at $175 a pop.

I will spend the day moving between the rail and the walking ring.  The tiki area where the horses come off the turn isn\'t too bad.

You could try the Irish pub on second floor near the paddock if you don\'t mind walking to bet

This will be my 25th live consecutive Florida Derby. While I liked it much better when I had 18 finish line seats in an elevated box at the old track, you have to roll with the punches.

I refuse to pay those exorbitant prices for the grandstand seats that are cramped and uncomfortable on Florida Derby Day. I like section 102 and those seats are normally $2 which I, and my buddies, buy extras of on normal days for the comfort factor. Not an option tomorrow. Nor is the $200 for a seat in Ten Palms dining room, or $175 at the bar there. Though Marty makes drinks like no other, I\'d rather give her the extra dough than Frankie.

So it\'s down to the tiki area (North side) for me. If you get there early enough you can snag a table under one of the canopies and can easily access the bar and windows, and televisions for the day. They have added seats, and a portable tote board. You are close to where the horses come on to the track, and plenty of self-serve totes as well. The snack bar there has great carved sandwiches for a reasonable price. Lots of beautiful women, and horses.

Weather tomorrow will be spectacular (65° tonight, 82° tomorrow) I wouldn\'t miss it for the world!

Good luck everyone.

Prefer the Yardhouse on the first floor.  Better beer.
