Title: Strong Recommendation
Post by: TGJB on October 17, 2011, 10:04:01 AM
Guys-- I want to strongly recommend you consider playing in the Breeders\' Cup betting contest. Both the contest itself and the format were my idea, and they\'ve made it a great deal. It\'s the best handicapping contest out there.

1-- It\'s $10,000 to play, of which $7,500 becomes your bankroll, and $2,500 goes into the kitty for prize money. The Breeders\' Cup kicks in about an extra $35,000 for prize money. It\'s a real money format (you bet your own money over the two days), you keep what you have at the end, and the top ten earn cash prizes. The winner gets an estimated $175k (!), $70k for second, etc. The top six finishers get spots in the $2 million NHC in Vegas next January (and about 40% of the contestants have already qualified, so hitting the top ten might do it).

A lot of you will be betting that much money over the two days anyway, and this is a much better deal than just putting it through the windows. But wait, there\'s more...

2-- The contest is in the Gold Room, arguably the best seats in the house, with a free buffet (good food) and a balcony from which to watch the races, overlooking the finish line. (Comparable seats nearby-- which are sold out-- go for $1,050 for the two days). You also get a clubhouse pass for a guest ($375 value), and if you want you can purchase box seats for you and a friend for $750, or seats at reserved tables on Millionaires Row (sold out to the public).

3-- They have arrangements with hotels, and can hook you up with a room downtown at a reduced rate.

4-- I\'m playing in the contest. You have a chance to kick my butt, buy me a drink, or both. Since most you will get the seminar you will know my opinions in advance, and I\'ll be going out at night. I should be easy prey.

The contest will have about 125 players, and there are roughly 20 spots still open. For contest rules or more info contact Tim Schram at tschram@breederscup.com

I don\'t know about the rest of  you, but of all the \"selling points\" TGJB laid out, I think the most attractive one is that with his entry, we know there is already some \"dead money\" in the contest.  At most 123 good players to beat.....

Hey man, I\'m used to playing with a hangover.

You\'re good at this kind of thing. Putting aside the added value of the seats, etc., but figuring in the prize money, what\'s the effective takeout? Obviously the churn is a variable.

Contest aside, they\'ve got a new regime there, and they asked me how to attract big players for the future. I said a) rebates, and b) a concierge to make it easy to go and enjoy being at the event, wherever it is.

on that point, Tim is incredibly accomadating.  His \"customer service\" has been unreal.

Happy to see the kind words for Tim, who does a great job at both the BCBC and the NHC.

I played in the tourney at Santa Anita the first year and at CD last year. SA was great but CD was spectacular, the balcony view was phenomenal, the atmosphere electric and we were treated superbly. Essentially the cost is $2500 with a great upside as Jerry has pointed out, many of us will push $7500 through the windows over the 2 days anyway so give it a shot, I promise you won\'t regret it

Sounds like TGJB is going to be there. I guess the last BC he attended in DaVille was what \"the DaHoss year\"....Pretty sure I\'m right.

This contest is out of my league but I will pass it along to a few others who do bet like this....maybe per race!

Its a busy fast moving couple of days. I get in on Wednesday afternoon. We nned to see who is coming at least for a brief Meet and Greet!
