The Turf course(outer/Melon) is under construction. NYRA is making the course wider by adding space nearest the outside rail. It looks like the course will become another 20-25 ft wider. My trainer who is still in town seems to think that this is from the complaints of a few jocks (track too narrow in turns)when adding the portable rail during larger field races. The security gent who I spoke with offered that \"NYRA\" can now run with 14 horse fields. Either way it is a sight to see.
What are they cutting into the main track? or moving the inner track in?
They are working with the land towards the outer rail(on the Melon turf course). The track is severely sloped about 20 ft or so on the very outside of the turf course.( Assuming it was used to help drain.) So now they are bringing in truckload\'s of dirt and are leveling that area. Right now it looks like there is a 40-50 ft dirt track on the outside of the turf course. Send me an email at mmfirstserve@aol.com and I will return w a picture that I took while there today. It is quite the sight.
